Mina spent the whole day in the Toddler room at school yesterday and did great. Bittersweet.

No dance class last night due to snow.

I threw some shoes downstairs this morning and hit our French door, breaking a pane of glass. :/ Fun?

Eye is swollen and red but not oozing. A stye? Allergies? Seeing my PCP Friday for a routine check, so good timing.

Bad day is bad, but life happens. Getting out today at lunch for air, errands and a refresh.

I found Praline in her cage, gone from this world this morning. She joined our family in 2001, so she had a good, long bunny life. She loved to give "Eskimo kisses" to us, and would hump Batty's head in a sign of dominance. Much love to you cutie bun. :/

Work

Girl is back at daycare. I'm at a training in Needham and then heading into the office. So excited to get back to work. I know this is normal for the first year or so of parenting a kid in daycare, but it is still hard (and guilt-inducing).

Life

It is flashing by. It goes faster as you are older, but so much more so as a parent. Very weird.

I'm so happy fall weather is here - best time of the year! Apple picking with Mina was great! Being home and getting things done is great!

Taking a small cut in pay to have Mondays off is so worth it. We have a slow morning, go to her developmental play group at Cobblestones, and run an errand or go for a walk. Napping is going better too. If we time it right, she'll go down awake, fuss about 5 minutes and fall asleep. I type now as she sleeps on me - she woke up screaming after about 40 minutes earlier, but nestled into my shoulder back to slumber when I picked her up. I love to snuggle with this girl, so I'll take what I can get.

She is less a baby every day! Sitting, crawling, pulling to a kneel or stand. Loves taking things out of boxes. And 'helping' me in the kitchen. And music. And dancing. And laughter. We ate so in love with our muffin.

We were losing track of our selves and each other, so we resolved this week to be a fresh start. Back to dedicated free time alone and also couple's time. Back to the gym and dance class. More time at home.

"The days are long, but the years are short" indeed.

I has pneumonia and the girl, an ear infection.

Been weaning over the last 3 weeks, which means I'm not pumping at work this week. So weird! Saturday starts the next week to drop a feed, and I'm not sure if I want to or not. I think so. Mina is so unhappy with feedings in the summer. I'm alternately relieved to give a bottle or heartbroken to not be boobin'.

Excited to return to work tomorrow. I'm behind on a big project, stupid pneumonia.

Star Wars Celebration is in a bit over 1 month! Have sewing and prepping to do! Decisions to make. I will be so sad to leave Mina behind, but she'll have a blast with Auntie!

Spending this weekend in the White Mountains: first family vacation with the girl. So weird!

Rock of Ages the movie: I did enjoy more than the musical!

Iron Maiden and Alice Cooper: lots of fun as always but oof, tired, off work today but Mina is at daycare so we can recover.

Met with a lactation consultant at Isis today. Oh boy.

First she checked Mina's sucking. She won't take as much of a finger in as she should, which makes her quite inefficient.

Talking over our issues, my milk is at or a bit less than where it should be. This makes sense given our formula use and me not being great about pumping. As fir it taking a while to pump, she suggested renting a hospital grade one. It would be more efficient.

RE Mina's latch/sucking and her chewing on me/ using me as a pacifier. Her guess is it's due to her tiredness paired with bad bottles. The Nuk ones old encourage chewing (to make my nipple shaped like that one). The nipples that come with the Medela are too easy. The ones we got with the hospital formula are super super easy. She suggests new bottles to make her work harder (Medela Calma costs $20, but she gave me 1 to try, Dr Browns newborn or Playtex w drop in bags). She's not a fan of the Breastflow for my issues (leaky and nipple is too short). She also gave me a handout on proper bottle technique.

She's sure that if we make Mina work for the bottle, she'll get better at the breast. And that the Medela Symphony would get me making more milk, and doing it faster.

A lot to think about.

I should have done this weeks ago, and not just before returning to work. Ah well, I'm feeling like our issues make sense now.

Pumped

Mar. 30th, 2012 10:51 pm
dancerjodi: (Default)

It's my 5th time pumping today. I tried this morning to feed Mina from the breast and lazy lazy. It's what I expected: she didn't get much sleep last night or naps in today.

I did pump much less than the # of feedings. A way to slowly wean? Going a few hours between, it seems to take me around a half hour to empty at 4 ozs per feeding. This stuff should be safe/balanced/easy for her to drink. I'm getting into a routine: a 2-feeding-8 oz pump only took me 45 minutes tonight (an hour last night).

It will be bottles tonight - easier for us and better for her sleep deprived and milk imbalance belly. Brian wants to stick with formula tonight so that we can rid her of the lactose intolerance type symptoms and start from square 1. The pumped milk i gave her today was fine, but she got gassy at night. I wonder how long after eating it would effect her. In addition to pumping till I think I'm 'empty' (you're never totally empty), we'll want to go by what the milk looks like too (visible separated fat, color, thickness). I wish there was more of a science to this.

Tomorrow I'll try and feed from the breast again. I know she does it well now if rested. This is the hardest thing to get done (get her sleeping). :/

We went to the childcare center today to get some paperwork and drop some things off. She'll go in next Friday, and start the 4-day routine on Tuesday 4/10. So strange! Brian and I will have the day together next Friday. What to do? I did find out that my Dad's cousin works there, so without intending to, family will be caring for our little girl.

So strange that she's almost 3 months old!

Feeding

We are dealing with this now http://www.breastfeeding-problems.com/foremilk-hindmilk-imbalance.html

She's slept less well over the last 2 days, and eaten less. Such a quick and dramatic result. My poor baby. :/

I need to get better at pumping. I think I try to do it while distressed, which means I'm not as successful at emptying as I should be (so I miss all of the good fatty stuff that comes at the end).

This continues to be a challenging, amazing, fascinating process.

I've dropped much of my pregnancy weight. I gained around 60 (lots of water). Lost 30 in the first two weeks. 10 more by my 6 week follow up.

I'm in jeans 2 sizes bigger. Yoga pants still fit. Tried on my work pants today, and though they fit and button they are tight and unflattering. Shopping for me.

I'm dancing 2x a week and walking with the babe. I'm still breastfeeding which burns calories but since I'll be pumping at work, won't have time to hit the gym there. How to fit other workouts in?

Also, I know I could eat better. It's all convenience all the time now.

Child Care

I return to work 2 weeks from today - crazy! Filling out papers at her childcare center this Friday morning. :/

It's gone by so fast! I'm both sad and excited to start this new chapter of our lives.

If anyone wants a midweek visit with us, now would be the time. We are busy ladies and the calendar is filling up! ;)

It was our second trip to DHR http://www.yelp.com/biz/dhr-stylists-cambridge with Mina. She just slept the last time. At this visit she was fascinated! All those sparkly things! We picked up some new shoes for Brian, got burritos and headed home. Cousins were having a yard sale around the corner, so we dropped by there before heading home for Mina's lunch. Brian is getting in some basement time before friends come over for a visit and dinner.

Last night went well. We're getting a better groove. Of course, we cheated and had her in her car seat, in the co-sleeper. Baby steps.

A quickie

Still breast feeding. Some formula here and there.

Mina had her 2 month Pedi appt - gained over a pound in a week! Got 2 shots and spent the last 2 days super gassy and cranky as a result. Told my did via text and he replied "I hated you when you got shots". Ahem.

We need to get her eating awake somehow and going to sleep separate from eating.

Naps

I am having the hardest time getting Mina to nap. I can in the car seat bucket, in the car, stroller, swing, or on me. Not so good in a crib.

I know the tools, but aren't doing well making them work.

My poor, sleepy girl. :/

We've had a good day with napping, less lazy eater.

I'll just take this thing day by day.

Poor Brian. I'm sure he loves the back and forth.
