Neat!
I'm going to get to develop a needs assessment evaluation on our doctors, their level of technical proficiency/use, and their desire to move toward using EMR (electronic medical records).
I wrote a paper last semester on the use of EMR in a health care organization. It was fueled mostly by the fact that its "the new thing" in health care, and that our docs are going to be required to be 75% on EMR by 2007 (through our contract with Partners).
This year we're starting the implementation plan and it seems I'll have a key role in it. I'll be doing some research and developing a survey instrument that will go to all of our PCPs. The administration staff will actually distribute and collect it, but then I'll code and analyze the data. This will be used in our long-term planning for the EMR implementation.
Neat! I think I found a good project to use for my Evaluations class final this semester. He's giving out a take-home final to students which will involve a bunch of case study questions (i.e. if X organization approached you to do Y, how would you do it). He told us though, that if we had our own appropriate projects to do to approach him about it. I'd MUCH rather do this! It helps too that some of the research I did last semester gives a good background to this, and perhaps even some tips on survey questions.
Its neat to finally see my graduate education having a direct impact in my day-to-day work. I really, really love this job despite the sucky commute.
