I really didn't learn how to bike ride until I was about 23-ish. (an uncle showed me how when I was 16 but I only did it that once and didn't ride again until 23 so I'd totally forgotten how). I think my husband was there holding onto the seat to steady me so I got a feel for the balance thing..like try to hold him up with his feet on both pedals. The trickiest thing for me to learn was the mount/dismount. My husband showed me how to tilt the bike toward the ground so I could prop my foot up on the pedal while pushing off the ground with the other foot. I think practice is really the key - falling is inevitable the first few times but eventually he'll get it.
