I wonder if that women ever heard any of MLK's speeches or was ever persecuted for any reason (being female, being poor, being of an alternate religion or sexuality of the mainstream) - my guess is not.
I think we've made such strides as a society (really, we have) but seeing someone like that makes me wonder how much progress is real and how much is just my distorted impression of it (I too grew up in a very diverse environment).
