Inara Costume
Brian and I watched the HD version of Serenity last night at our friend's home on their new massive TV. Damn! I'm sold on HD DVDs now.
Of course, seeing the outfit up close showed that the fabric is indeed a brocade style, and what I have isn't accurate. I figured as much (I didn't have a reference photo with me at the store) but what I bought was fairly inexpensive. It will serve as a good liner, at least. Time to hit Chinatown, methinks (or, have all the cool fabric stores gone away? I almost cried when North End Textiles closed).
Here's her actually in the outfit:

My reference pic has the corner of the scarf/sash thing folded over, and you can clearly see that the front is this more ornate brocade while the underside is more flat.
I found another screen shot that though not a great pic of the actress has a good close-up look at her jewelry. Not bad!
