Love that Dirty Water

I went out kayaking with Margaret on the Charles last night, for the first time ever. It was amazingly perfect weather and I'm surprised my arms and shoulders aren't sore this morning (though, I did kind of soak myself in the boat - it's going to take some time to learn control with rowing).

We dropped into the water at the dock on the Island http://www.islandneighborhood.org/ and rowed out to the Newton Marriott and back. I kept thinking of all of these years that my parents have talked of boating "at the lake house", and they've had a free boat drop about 2 minutes from Crafts Street. I only wish Brian could swim and would be up for trying this adventure, because if he was I would definitely start saving for my own boat.

Oh man I am so jealous! I have been wanting to do some kayaking on the Charles for a while--I was thinking of doing it one weekend afternoon or something. I'm not very good, so I get the "soaked in the boat" syndrome too.

Did you rent kayaks?

That sounds like such a great way to spend an evening. I'm glad you guys had fun! :)

Margaret owns two of her own and seems like she's looking for company to do it. You should poke her about it if you are interesting (or, you can rent at http://www.paddleboston.com/main.php ). The next time we go out I'm meeting her at her house in Wellesley and we are going somewhere in that area.

Most intriguing... I've not kayaked before, but it sounds like a good time (I generally enjoy boating-like activities)... I should bring it up to Margaret next time I see her...

I wanted to say something smarmy about that old bubbling spot in the middle of the river that was visible from the window of Friendly's on the upper level of the MOS (which also conveniently had the explanation of why it was there), but I can't remember why that existed in the first place.

So no smarmy cleverness from me this go-around....

Does Brian have no interest in learning how to swim?
