The cats' visit to the vet was uneventful. Jayne is a good weight, and Mal is 14 pounds (but remember, long cat is long!). They didn't mention anything about us trying to get him to loose weight, so we'll just have to keep an eye on it. He has got to be part Bengal!

Dance class tonight!

The Southie St. Patrick's Parade is this weekend, so our time will be filled with Star Wars. I guess New England Cable News is airing it starting at 12:30 on Sunday (the parade steps off at 1:00). I'm driving the truck that will have our banners and our music, so presumably I'll be at the front of the group. Brian will be sporting his Captain Rex costume.

Our schedule has resulted in us not eating so well lately; there has been a lot of ordering out or cooking quick/easy and not so nutritious things. I'm craving veggies in my diet! I had cut out most of the dairy I was taking in (switching to almond milk - Brian is lactose intolerant and we haven't been doing the raw dairy thing for a while, so we've been buying this instead) and a couple of social gatherings at our house had me buying regular milk for guests, which of course I drank because it was there. My sinus/allergy issues are increasing, so I wonder if it is because of the dairy or spring coming or whatever. Dairy is one of the things that can bring on or excaberte histamine reactions (of which I seem to have a few), so I'm trying to avoid it, within reason. There is no way this chick is giving up cheese! It is extremly odd how my sinus get going, and drain down my left side only (either into my ear or down my throat - just on that side)! It's not anything major to do anything about, but I'd like to try and deal with the cause rather than just throwing drugs at it.

I bought myself a kindle and a GREEN leather case (with a light) for our upcoming trips to San Francisco (the end of this month) and St. Thomas (the end of next month). I'm excited to be going away, but our schedule and not being around home for large chunks of time is weighing heavy on me. I like to travel, but I love my home (and I miss my cats and my normal life). It is odd, that I love making the plans and love taking the trip, but the week or so leading up to it I have this sense of 'let's just get it over with so that we can have some peace'. It is strange, because for the most part, I do well dealing with a lot going on and living in the moment. I'm not sure why I always have this kind of feeling for travel. We always have a good time and are always excited to come home after, which I think is a sign of a good life.

Gosh, we're up to St. Patty's day already? Where does time... Oh. Right.

I like to carry at least 1 if not 2 paper books when I travel. The "Turn off all electronics" applies to EReaders and I need the distraction during takeoff and landings. Or some fluffy-pants magazine. Usually I take a swing by Got Books, and pick up two previously loved items that if I have to leave behind somewhere I'm not too distressed.

Before Ereader I carried at LEAST 5 or 6 if not more every time I traveled. :) I never said I was sane, but I can't do without them!

You guys get a CSA, right? That must start up soon. I'm so jealous!

I LOVE almond milk. I tried some a little while back because I had a coupon, and now I'm hooked. So delicious, and almonds are so good for you!

While I'm sure WonderCon will be fun, I am a little more jealous of St. Thomas. Being excited to come home is great, though--you're right, it means you have a good life, so you have things that you are excited to get back to! That's the way to be :)

We have a meat CSA that is year-round (Chestnut Farms).

We've tried two different veggie CSAs in the past (Waltham Farms and The Farm School) and with how picky Brian is about veggies it just didn't make sense for us. We try and get them from the farmer's market when it is open (Waltham's is late May to October).

For dairy, we were a part of a raw dairy buying co-op for a while (Just Dairy) but it was super expensive. You pay for the milk (which is more expensive anyway) and then pay on top of it for the luxury of picking up at a nearby location once a week (a volunteer's home). We decided that we could pick the stuff up directly from the farm once a month (freeze the extra) and that even with the gas out to Foxboro (the closest raw dairy farm - Lawton Family Farm) we would save money. We did that for a while and had a good time with it, but life interferes, and the cost issue is also a problem. Another farm in Framingham (Eastleigh) started selling raw dairy and we bought from them once. What it really comes down to is a time/convenience factor (because I think the cost is worth it for what you are getting). I miss putting money into the farmer's hands (particularly in the dairy industry which is really struggling right now), but right now this isn't a good option for us. If getting raw milk wasn't so much of a pita we'd go back to it. I'm glad at least we have the option in Massachusetts, albeit it being a bit awkward because of the laws around it given its potential riskiness.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the almond milk. I've completely switched. I'm now also taking a calcium and vitamin D supplement, although I know the almond milk is fortified. I've also cut out most cheese (I agree about not giving up cheese!), ice cream is always just an occasional treat, and stopped eating yogurt; taking probiotics instead. I feel better, but crave a lot of protein - I want chicken, turkey bacon, lean ground turkey in everything, etc. Makes sense after cutting out all the dairy - have you noticed an increase in your cravings for eating meat now that you have cut way down on the dairy?

awesome about the kindle - someday I will get some of these neat contraptions everyone else has and seems to love. I just don't have the needs yet. :)

Have fun on your trips!

We've found buying the jugs of almond milk (almond dream) at BJs is the cheapest - the savings from that alone pay for the membership fee. We've been happy with it.

I drink a couple of glasses of milk a day and just switched to a couple of glasses of almond milk - I haven't noticed any change in cravings, but I have noticed less congestion in the morning.
