Stuff

I hope everyone had a great holiday! I've been away from e-mail and livejournal and am just catching up now . . .

Some pictures that I've meant to post for a while, if you like:

From The Wallex, a place that had a large place in my childhood (and is now a big whole in the ground, soon to be a massive CVS and shopping complex): http://www.diabolis.net/albums/places/Wallex/

A movie, from Xmas Eve: http://downwardspiral.net/movies/?viewmode=gallery&image=15

Our 2002 Holiday shindig: http://thahood.net/parties/Holiday_Party_2002/

Still to be put up, the pictures of our holiday decorations and the scary toy soldiers from the downtown area AND Bratling's pix from the crazy Christmas Eve party at my parent's house.

Wallex is gone? When did that happen? :(

The Wallex

The Tortolla family (that opened it, around 50 years ago) said in a newspaper interview that it needed so many expensive updates to compete with other bowling places (most of their profit came from the bowling, not the rollerskating part). He said that since business had declined and he was getting older (and, younger family members weren't interested in keeping it going) he decided to lease out the land. There will be a massive CVS and more retail space in its place.

I'm really torn - change is good, and Waltham is now a place that people don't look at me and go "oh, so you grew up there" while they roll their eyes. There are a lot of neat things there that weren't before. But places like the Wallex keep closing since they aren't trendy enough.

Such is life, I guess.
