A fresh salad

B and I stopped at the Farm around the corner from our house yesterday on the way home to pick up what they had. I mentioned the corn on the cobb we grilled yesterday - I also got 2 kinds of lettace, some tomatoes and some cute, teeny peaches.

It makes SUCH a difference eating such fresh food, wow, I forgot. There is so much more flavor, the quality is so great compared to the supermarket. Yum.

So if you're out in our neck of the woods check out Sunshine Farm (their large farm store building will be finished construction supposedly at the end of the month - right now they are selling out of a big awning). There is an article about them in here:

Ohhhhh...I'm envious. We have been to one of those Farm's one time up in Indiana (at a place called Hilger Farm (http://www.hilgers.biz/)) while visiting some family there, and it was amazing. They even had a restaurant where they served the food they farmed, and outside...get this...they had a small petting zoo with rabbits, horses, etc. I put a picture of the rabbits they had out here (http://www.corgibuddy.com/rabbitpark.html) on my website. I'm much more of an advocate for indoor buns, however, it was interesting to see that set-up, and I was in awe. Sounds like you had a marvelous time. :)

I haven't seen animals at this farm, though I know there are horses and cows at some of the other surrounding ones and a family further down the street has lots of animals, including a wallabee :) I think its neat that we're only a 20 minute drive from Boston but have a wallabee (not even sure if I'm spelling that right) nearby.

There's a place we go apple-picking in the fall that's got goats, sheep, chickens, roosters and bunnies out for patrons to have a little 'petting zoo' experience. But from what I can tell, the buns are inside off-season (they are little ones and wouldn't survive the New England winter out there).

OMG....now I am jealous! heh heh.... a wallaby (or wallabies...you were close *grin*)....I would love to see one outside of a zoo. You know by now how I feel about roos and wallabies (http://www.corgibuddy.com/kangaroos.html)...and I'm definitely with you on the whole Fall (http://www.corgibuddy.com/halloweenandrabbits.html) scene. I swear you are my long lost twin!!!! *grin*

have you ever been to the Waltham Farmer's Market? I've been meaning to check it out for quality and prices myself.

Yup, for a while Tember and I were going on every Saturday.

Its pretty neat, small but I was always able to get really good things there. The people were very nice, there was a dairy farm with yummy homemade cheese, a good bakery (Iggy's of Watertown) and a couple of flower/plant vendors in addition to all the veggies.

A guy there cut the greens off carrots when he sold them. When I asked if I could just grab some for my bunnies he said "yes please, these just end up in the compost pile". So I got a free source of good greens for the bunnies for a while :)

They have live music too. Most of the time its pretty lame but B and I heard a great swing band there once.

Its been 2 years, so I can't remember. I rememer they did have really good cheese spreads that you'd put on crackers.

We've made it there once - and drooled all over (after buying) a bunch of brownies from one woman.

I have yet to check out the Framingham one in our area. I think that's also on Saturdays too (at the Catholic church down the street from us on 135).

There is that farm in Lincoln. I cannot remember enough to search for it...

Hey, Sunshine Dairy! I used to ice skate when I was a kid. My dad did when he was a kid, too.

If you're ever looking for turkey (or other stuff, like homemade pies, breads, frozen entrees, homegrown veggies, etc) check out my old farm -- OutPost Farm on Prentice St in Holliston -- I worked there all through high school and in the beginning of college, too. They should be getting their own corn in any day now, I think. Also, in the fall, there's a Celebrate Holliston festival and they do themed hay rides with a petting zoo and stuff. Oh, and old-fashioned BBQ chicken on Thursdays in the summer.

I'm bummed - they closed the ice cream stand RIGHT before we moved down the street from there. They sold off a huge chunk of their land for condos (ick!). I can understand though, times are tough.

Yeah, we skated on the pond at the bottom of the hill next to the farmstand. It's one of the popular spots in the area.

We didn't own the farm, no. We moved down the street from it in 1992, and I started working there in 1993. That the one, though. Tyler worked there, too. Good times.

that's the *one* thing i miss about living in bumfuck middle of Washington state. Wenatchee, to be exact. whenever you see an apple with the Washington apple sticker on it, that's where it came from. from about april or may through October, any road you drive on to get in or out of town will have a fruit stand about every mile. peaches, nectarines, cherries, strawberries, apples, apricots, plums, grapes... all fresh and running at about the cost of pocket change. yummm....
