"Honestly, if the daytime stuff will bore you at all, don't go."
Right, but how will I know what the daytime stuff is, and if it will bore me or not if there's no list of what's going to happen? ;) I know that setting a schedule is tough but a general 'on Saturday this will happen', 'on Sunday this will happen' would be helpful.
"On the Other Devil, Yes, $50 is a lot, but that could be useful if you're at all interested in what the con offers. Movies, Art, Masquerade, Late Night Drumming, Late Night Dancing. There's a small dealer's room which requires a membership. Dealer's Row is run out of individual's rooms and generally does not."
I paid $50 and travelled to go to DragonCon, I think the amount is reasonable if there is stuff going on that I liked. The DC schedule wasn't set until a couple of weeks before the event, but there were lists of what was going to happen (tracks, panels, etc) so I knew that there would be lots to do. "Movies", what kind of movies? "Art", what kind of art? "Masquerade", when? I'd love to see this but don't want to spend the whole weekend there if the masquerade is the only thing I'm interested in. I knew that if I went to DC there was to be anime playing 24x7, that there was a British comedy track, a Star Wars Track, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Track . . . all I know about Arisia is that there is some artist, some filker, some author and some band (that's not really enough to fill up a weekend, though).
My only point is, I'm going because I have friends involved and I've heard of them having a good time in the past so I'm giving it a chance. What's to motivate someone that doesn't know a thing about the con to spend $50 based on the little information on the web site?
Arisia
