Horny!

Brian spent some more time working on my bantha horns last night (we're working on a 'sexy bantha girl' outfit for me to wear so that I can lead him around in his Tuscan Raider getup). I cut out the pieces for the outfit on Monday, sewed them last night, and should be able to do the finishing touches (trim and try the thing on) tonight. This should be interesting :)

I was hoping to go to either Bottle Rocket last night or Man Ray tonight but I can feel the start of a cold coming on. Since I'd rather be healthy than sick for a month I'm going to pass on it so that I can drink tea, keep warm, and get to bed at a reasonable hour. Dammit, I'll make it there before I go back to school though! We'll be at Ceremony next Monday.

Arisia, who is going? What is happening there?


We're going to give it a chance and all, but usually I'd like to know what I'm getting for my $50 per person (not even a formal schedule, just a list of the kinds of things that will happen would be nice).

I know friends work really hard on this con but what happens there seems to be some mythical, guarded secret - all people can tell me is that "its a lot of fun". That's usually after they've asked us to volunteer. I'd like to actually experience the thing first before giving my time to it, you know?

Right now all that's advertised is a list of guests (most I haven't heard of) and The Dresden Dolls. I know at some point there will be a masquerade, perhaps a drum circle, presumably vendors and an art room. Presumably panels: but I don't want to spend the whole day sitting in a corner of the hotel waiting for the evening events if all panels have to do with Sci Fi Literature, Polyamory and Filking :).

We won't be staying at the hotel so we need to figure out how we're going to pull off the costume change thing (and knowing what's happening when is kind of important for figuring out what we're wearing when). There's no sense in being a bantha chick if I'm going to get bored after 20 minutes (if I'm unable to find an interesting panel or activity during the day) and want to go walking down Boylston Street (I'd be much more comfy doing that in my jeans).


I'm not expecting DragonCon or anything, I'm just kind of nervous about what we'll end up finding (paying $50 to hang out with friends in a hotel. well, normally I wouldn't do that kind of thing). I've definitely been spoiled :)

"I used to go to Arisia (95-97) and I found that during the day I would go shopping - there are shopping floors where each vendor has a room, plus a whole ballroom of shopping. Some of the panels were fun, but I have never been much for panels. Playing samples of new games and hanging out in the consuite is always fun too. I also found that I'd spend all night awake and so would sleep for much of the morning."

Going early in the day would be fine if I knew there would be shopping *and* other stuff (like interesting panels). I want to try avoid being there and being bored out of my mind if all there is to interest me during the day is shopping :)

"I seem to remember they also had movie rooms, showing all anime, or all of some other genre."

These are things that all sound very nice - things that should be listed on a website. :)

I'm not really complaining I'm just very, very confused. If they want people to go to the con, shouldn't they advertise beyond "here's a con, its at this hotel, here's 5 people that will be here" and "there's great stuff, art, literature, movies, dancing"? I'd hope that a little more than one week before they con there would be some kind of general theme for events that are happening that they'd be able to share on the website.

I think I'm just to anal and organized for my own good sometimes - it gets me frustrated. I also feel bad for friends that are running around like chickens with their heads cut off right now in the planning :)

It's not just you we're very short staffed this year.... The person running the web is also filling in to run another dept.

I know, this all sucks and I feel really bad for you guys.

Next year (after grad school) I'd actually have time to volunteer - once I can see what the con is like and if I enjoy it (which I'm guessing I would) I'd love to volunteer. I've wanted to help Tiggerette with things this month since I'm not in school but I haven't been able to figure out from her what she needs help with (she mentioned helping out *during* the con, but I'd really like to just go once to see what its like, first).

Now, could YOU all handle my organized, anal behavior next year? :)

No problem We like our people to get to now the con as well... We'd like everyone to volenteer. and if by sunday you still think you might want to help make things better. I'll point you at the right people for next years. :-)
