I feel like I'm back in college again . . .

This weekend I spent some time around the house doing some pleasure reading, getting enough sleep for myself and trying to figure out the best way to pay my tuition bill that is due on February 2nd (damn mandatory student fees). B has been getting back to making chain maile stuff again and I pulled out an old sewing project that's been sitting since the fall. I'm almost done cutting out all of the numerous pieces of fabric, liner, interfacing and tulle (one more piece to go and then I can start stitching). I'm giving myself a realistic goal this time . . . I want to finish it up in time to wear to the most formal Convergence event in late May.

We spent a lot of time this weekend poking around the nooks and crannies of Boston (this week it was the downtown crossing and common/gardens area). Its amazing how many little treasures are hidden in Boston that I've never seen despite living here for my whole life. We found what was called 'the smallest bar in Boston' and 'the oldest Italian restaurant in Boston' - I'd like to sample them both soon before we forget about them.

Yesterday we attended Bedlam http://www.gothicboston.org/misc/bedlam/ - as I get more in the mindframe of being a student I've been digging out my old literary gems from their dusty hiding places and reading again (heh, perhaps I'll even start writing again). I'm really ready to get back to school now . . . I'm kind of thinking that I should have enrolled for more than one class this semester but I guess taking it slow isn't too bad of a thing.

And tonight we'll break from our social-hermitdom once again and make our way to Ceremony to see Ash, Arcanus, Lady B and Scissorkiss. I think I'll actually get dressed up nice for this, for once (despite the 19 degree weather that is expected).

MMMMMM, I like my life - twas truly a magical weekend and should be a nice week too (starting back to the gym today too and I can't wait)!

yay for good weekends! Have you been to the Gardner museum? Another great gem

The Gardner

Heh, I LIVED there practically since I went to Simmons (right next-door) and could get in free :) I used to poke in and walk around the courtyard when I had some free time between classes.

You'd be surprised how many people in the little local gothy scene haven't gone there before!

I'd love to go to one of their classical music performances in the great hall but haven't had anyone to go with . . .

I know! I took Darkling there for her first trip there, I think she wants to live there now.

And I was looking at the concert schedule there as well, I would be very up for that. Plus an excuse for me to become a member

Keep me in mind when you go, I'd love to join you!

I can't bring myself to join as a member since I used to be able to get in free (*sniff, sniff*). I think I still could as an alum if I planned accordingly and checked out passes from the Simmons library. I love the Garner (like the MFA) but I know that I wouldn't get there enough to make membership to either worthwhile.

Which reminds me - with the tickets from "The Look" exhibit at the MFA they said we could get into the Museum free within the next month; that expires soon (eek)!

ok sure! I'll keep and eye on the concert program at the ISGM and if anything comes up I will let you know :-) That is such a great place...oh and I do have a membership to the mfa so always willing to go there

and did you know there is a somerville museum? I've never been but I passed the signs and am now very curious

RE the Somerville Museum, I've seen signs for it but don't know much else about it. There's actually 2 museums in the city I live in (one is the Waltham Museum, the other the Charles River Museum of Industry) that I've been meaning to check out too.

Many times these local museums are free admission (they just request a donation) - I just always forget about them and don't end up going :)

I love dressing up for Convergence, but I don't know what I'll do this year. I am thinking that I'll have darkling do my hair in braids before I leave. And I really want to figure out how to do those pointy pony tails (also called deviltails).

Maybe I'll go in all black velvet with black velvet wings - going for the devil side of the angels/devils theme.

Angels/Devils

My dress is dark purpleish-blue and satin with black tulle underneath . . . I need to get some silk flowers to decorate the top of the bodice with.

I wonder how I could work that into the angel theme . . . I was picturing that this dress would be nice with some lace gloves (that I picked up in NOLA, nice white hand made ones) and a parasol - but the parasol would be too much with wings, I think.

Perhaps a silvery-blue angel? Hmmmm . . .

I really need to think about dress, and make reservations soon, if I am going to go.

I still want to try to create Lulu's costume but I dont know if my skill set can do something like that.
