Boston HC
As Brian mentioned, the new Shadow's Fall album has two covers on it: Dangerous Toys and Only Living Witness! Local Boston music fans should be familiar with the latter, and non-local hardcore fans should be too.
Apparently there is a recent re-release of their albums, and here's a neat article about it and them and the old scene:

Jonah was an absolutely captivating singer, almost in the way that Frank Pino is but different. He wasn't out singing to the ladies (not like there were a ton of us in the room anyway), but he really connected and energized the crowd. I also liked his anti-violence/FSU stance, and given the scene at the time it really took a lot of guts on his part.
The first HC show I ever went to was actually an all-ages OLW show at the Rat (and I think they were playing with Sam Black Church). So, so good! I still miss the Rat *sniff*. Actually, I really miss old Kenmore Square in general: The Rat, the old used music stores, and the old Army Navy store (which has also left its later home in the Arsenal Mall).

Kenmore!
I have a great Rat story. Hole was playing there and all these Boston musicians kept coming up to Courtney Love and asking her: "What are you going to do if Mary Lou shows up?" Courtney freaked out and called Kurt's hotel in London and bitched him out for a couple of hours. She never ended up paying for it either.
