Hump Day

As expected, it was not a good WW week last week. Ah well, I'm still coming out ahead. Its good to have sporadic reminders of how easily a couple of bad days/meals can shift the balance.

We'll be moving stuff into our new bedroom tonight and I can't wait to see how it all looks. Its funny, I feel like we're moving to a new house in a way. Once this is done we'll be taking a bit of a break on house stuff for our own sanity and to focus on other things (like getting ready for DragonCon). I love doing this stuff and love the result, but it gets kind of overwhelming trying to work on too many things at once. I can't believe that we're halfway through August! "The Fall" is almost here, which was when we wanted to get some other things done (insulating our attic floor, getting a plumber in to do some maintanence/checking of our heating system).

Speaking of house, I'm so relieved that our refinance will go through and that we'll get a new roof out of the deal. Brian and I still need to sit down and work on our budget (and I'm thinking of taking Knome's suggestion and picking up some kind of accounting software to help with budgeting). We're good about paying bills and saving and sticking to a general budget, but since we got the big purchases out of the way (homes, education) we haven't been so good about long term planning and the unexpected expenses that will undoubtedly arise can throw us for a loop. God, I sound so old!

Mal is feeling better, and we can tell this by the fact that he's starting to try and get into more and more things, the monkey! The other night he jumped from the floor up over the back of our couch and landed on the top of the back cusion! Last night he was fighting to get the cone off, and managed to get the tie undone, into his mouth, and had started to swallow some of the fraying string on it (it was a gauzey type tie). Oh no! Luckily I was in the room with him and grabbed him right away and freed the poor guy. We replaced the tie with a ribbon that will stay tighter, be less likely to untie, and won't unravel. I'll feel much better about him once he gets those stitches out next Tuesday - less than a week!

This weekend will bring craftiness, trooping for a little boy who has come through his Leukemia treatments cancer free (we're having a Jedi Knighting ceremony for him at his birthday party and presenting him with his own real looking light saber) and helping my sister with unpacking (she was supposed to close yesterday). Whoot!

Glad to hear Mal is feeling better, but boy, he's intent on being a little troublemaker, isn't it?

Is crafting this Friday a girl's night only? I have a boy that is interested in tagging along and also working on crafty stuff. :-)

Naughty Mal! Glad he's feeling better, though.

To throw in my $0.02, I've been very happy with GNUCash. It's somewhat platform dependent (I've run it on Mac and Linux), and it isn't commercially supported (AFAIK), but it has vastly improved my accounting practices. It forces two column accounting which I wasn't very familiar with when I started using it, but since I've gotten use to it (using it something like 2 years now) I really like the consistency and error checking it provides. It handles all my accounts, loans, 401k, etc, and provides almost every report I could want. I have used both Quicken and Money in the past, and I like GNUCash much better.

Of course, after writing that I realize have no idea what you're looking for, so that may be a completely useless discussion :) But I hope it helps!
