Heh... "Packie" is short for "Package Store", or "Liquor Store"... The name generally comes from prohibition, and the old Mass "Blue Laws" that stated containers of alcoholic beverages could not legally be carried in public uncovered from view. Thus the stores that sold alcohol wrapped or "packaged" them for their customers.
