Tiki

Brian had the idea that we should build a bamboo bar to go over our radiator cover in the den. When we have folks in there we do serve on it, so dressing it up would be cool and add to the whole look of the room. Here's the Radiator cover: http://www.marmontianderson.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=22&pos=2

I found this http://blog.humuhumu.com/2006/09/05/how-to-build-a-tiki-bar - very cool!

Now the question is, where to buy the bamboo? A Home and Garden show host found some at a caning shop (heh - caning - not that kind!) but the sites for local stores I've seen only seem to have the woven stuff for the chair backs. What do you think? It seems I'll be spending more time on google.

What stinks about having 2 walls of windows, one of bookshelves and one with our entertainment center and the door is that we can't hang too much as far as art goes on the walls. I totally think Brian should make a retro "Cantina" bar sign to hang over our door though, to tie the Tiki and the Star Wars together (as it is, we have the Gentle Giant Han and Greedo bookends in there). :)

remember that the heater is providing you with warmth so you don't want to cover it up too much more. perhaps paint ferns and leaves on the cover with a bamboo tray on top?

also, fwiw, xmastree shops has tiki bars for not much money. you may be able to adapt it (or just find you need it for the back yard.)

Actually, I saw a fully built tiki bar in the window at iParty this weekend when I was at the Glen Meadow Mall.
