Media

This is an interesting article about old behemoth media cabinets becoming less popular:

We have one we tried to sell last year to no avail. We're still using the central part and 1 shelf (storing other things inside). It makes the room look so cramped, so we keep going back and forth on whether we want to hang onto it or not. We tried to sell last year but to no avail. We'll probably end up donating or putting on the curb or something at some point. Its too bad, because its a nice piece of furniture. I don't want to think about it for a while, but I think post the holidays we may be switching things up.

I wonder if you can reconfigure yours: I've been hearing of some instances lately where people removed the top half of the cabinet, leaving the "table" part and the bottom cabinet for storage. So you'd essentially end up with a low cabinet... might be worth a try, especially if you're thinking about donating it anyway...?

That's exactly what we did. I took off the top, and jigsawed the posts off, then screwed the top onto the lower half, which gave us a simple "table". The glass knickknack shelves that were on the sides were tossed out, so even though we still have our 27" CRT TV, the extra space now holds our plants. :)
