Nstar Green

I had signed us up for http://www.nstaronline.com/residential/customer_information/nstar_green/nstar_green.asp back when it was first available. Yesterday I received a little thank you note from the company with a small green flag reading "gone green" to put in my front lawn.

My boss has been making fun of me for my green efforts, so I brought the letter in this morning to show him just how green I've been. I considered bringing the flag to wave around in the office when I'm taunted, but I stuck it in my lawn on the way to the car this morning instead. I've earned a new nickname now ("greenie"), but I'll take it!

You can see a picture of the flag and text of the letter in this blog post http://writinglife3.blogspot.com/2008/10/gone-green-thanks-nstar.html , as well as this writer's concern about the cost of making and mailing said flags. Its definitely a form of advertising for the company and I have no delusions of their well wishes being anything less. The question is I guess, is advertising going to be necessary to get folks to move over to this way of thinking? I tend to agree.

we got that too ;P

I'm guessing at some point we'll need a wooden dowel for something and take it from that (and the flag will end up pinned to my cubicle wall or something). :)

Yeah, I think so... It's good to spread the word.

Yeah, when you're already 'doing the right thing' these mailings seem like wasted resources, but there are still so many people out there who don't know these options even exist. Or they listened to all the hype earlier in the year which has taken a back burner to drama around the election and fuel prices. I got a flyer in the mail yesterday about recycling more in my county. I took three seconds to read it and make sure I hadn't missed anything, then put it in the recycling bin. I think the county set aside a quarter million dollars to try to get people to recycle more! I've noticed more bins going to the curb every week since they started this campaign though. and some people have more than one bin now, so they're clearly filling them up.

I'm glad you take your coworker's ribbing in stride. they probably do it to cover up the fact that they admire your efforts but are embarrassed they haven't done the same.

that is wonderful! We were considering doing that. We should. I'll remind Jeremy (he is in charge of the NSTAR bill).

I can't imagine why any educated person would make fun of you for going green.

We make fun of each other for everything around here - its all in fun. :) Any office that has a rewards system around the boss giving people monkey stickers is one that you have to take lightly. :)
