WALTHAM — A woman was injured overnight in a two-alarm fire in a Moody Street building.

Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Turner described "heavy fire" at the rear roof at 279 Moody St., which is the Boston University Center for Digital Arts.

The unnamed woman, who lives in an apartment on the third floor above the center, was taken to a local hospital. Turner did not know the extent of her injuries.

He said the woman was sleeping next to a window. The fire blew out the window, strewing shards on her her bed.

Fire Chief Richard Cardillo said the apartment that burned was a luxury artist's loft. "My men did a good job" containing the fire, he said.

Jerry Baptiste, a bouncer working at The Landing nearby, said he was walking a woman to her car when he saw fire and smoke coming from the rear of the building. He said he ran and pulled a street alarm. He saw flames and a man running out of a building clutching a cat.

Rosa Guerra, a housecleaner working on the second floor of the building, said there seemed to be blood on the injured woman's stomach and hands.

Firefighters were still working on the building at 1 a.m.
