Za-Beths Magic Carpet (Hafli)
Sunday, February 29th 2004 – 2-5 PM
Middle East Restaurant, Central Square, Cambridge

It gives us great pleasure to HIGHLIGHT 2 great teachers who are also directors and choreographers. They will be showing off their troupes in different combinations of troupe, duet, and solo performances in imaginative and creative works of art (and works in progress). Teachers will also do a short “Q&A”. So, with a warm round of applause, please WELCOME:

Sardis and Seyyide Sultan and their troupes [Badriya/Z dances with Seyyide - perhaps this means I'll FINALLY be able to see her perform] :)

Music by “DJ ALI”

* A swap table will be available (contact Za-Beth for details). There will be plenty of line-dance and open dancing along with some fantastic soloist! As always, anyone interested in performing, let me know.

Not only did I make a neat dinner last night (used a recipe for a carrot dish from the most recent http://www.penzeys.com/ catalog), I finished my homework for next Monday's class, painted my nails *and* had a nice long chat with my brother.

Somebody stop me! (heh, I want to get "The Mask" on DVD) :)

Today will be a loooong day. I guess one good thing about a 7:00 class is that I'll have time reserved between work and class to get homework done. The unfortunate thing is that at the moment (until the new swanky student center opens), there aren't really any comfy places to sit and do homework. In the meantime I'll sit bolt-upright in a little cubicle on the 5th floor of the library and look out at Boston Harbor.

One day Brian and I were in the supermarket trying to figure out what kind of salad dressing to bring to my parent's house. It was my Mom's birthday and the kids were making dinner and presenting her with a photo album with pictures of all of us. I had to pick up a few things for dinner, including salad stuff.

I commented that I would just get some kind of Italian dressing since everyone liked it and we proceeded to find the cheapest one (we're not really gourmets in my family). A random guy walking by overheard us and told us that we just *had* to buy THIS dressing, and he reached over us to grab a bottle of dressing with an illustration of an old lady on it. He raved about how it was the best Italian dressing EVER and that it was put out by a local family restaurant that's been around "forever". I commented that it looked kind of plain since there were no spices in the bottle at all. He told us to trust him.

So we bought it and damn, it was really good dressing! My parents looked at it quizzically but then after they took a bite they remarked how it was strange how good it was. I'd say its probably the best Italian dressing I've had before.

I picked up a bottle to put on my salads at work a couple of weeks ago and just today finally noticed a URL on the back. You can see the history of the family business (first opening a little market, then the restaurant which is down the street from our house and had some pretty decent, basic Italian food). I think you can also order dressing and sauce based on Fanny's classic recipe (one of the founders of the company). I think when we're heading out for Italian food in the future we'll probably end up supporting these guys - there is a similar family atmosphere there to http://www.chateaurestaurant.com/ only the place isn't as large. Which reminds me, I have a gift card for The Chateau to use up - toasted raviolis here I come!

Here is the site (work safe, it not *that* kind of Fanny ;) ) http://www.gofannys.com/ .

I guess its just local music day. Now they are playing a Freezepop song (which must be a newer one - its not on either of the albums we have - I think the name is "Super").
