The wedding we went to Friday night was fun, and interesting on many levels. Read more... )

Saturday brought an amazing ballet class and we saw The Corpse Bride. Read more... )

Sunday would bring sleeping late, bumming around the house a bit, getting some things done, and checking out the Hurricane Hafli . Performances were very varied and everyone was quite talented. It was fun to hang with friends and see my old dance teachers for a bit. I was wondering how bumping into them would be, seeing how I'm not going back to take lessons this fall. Everything was fine. I think going to the event was good for me, because it helped me put into thoughts (and words) more why bellydance though fun just isn't for me in terms of serious dance development. Read more... )

Last thoughts for the weekend - the diet and fitness note. After 1 week of using the Self Magazine website Goal site to track workouts and food I've gained an appreciation for how I'm eating. Read more... )

For a while the phone we have in our living room has bugged me. We live in a 100+ year old house and try and decorate to suit, so the off-white modern phone we had on our antique end table just didn't look right to me. Trying to fund a funky, retro looking landline phone in a store has been a daunting task. Remember when Radio Shack used to sell funky phones? No more! I had read online that Circuit City did to but a trip there yesterday came up with nothing.

I tend to get fixated on a certain style of something (cars, jeans, purses, housewares or decorations) so when styles change and you can't find those things anymore it drives me nuts. I'm not what you'd generally call a trendy person. I knew this wasn't going to be an easy task. Landlines are a dying breed anyway, never mind me wanting a corded phone that looks like an old one. I found some really pretty retro style phones online, but they were all in the $200+ range. I don't want to spend that for something that sits in the corner that I rarely use.

Yay, I found something! I ordered it today, and hopefully it will arrive before our shindig on 10/7, when I'd like the place to look presentable.

Me = dork.

In other domestic news, we cut our herbs last night and hung them to dry in the kitchen on our pot rack over the radiator. At some point we'll transport them to the attic where its dark, not dusty, not humid and is out of the way to finish (could take 2-4 weeks from online accounts) so that all of our pots can go back onto said pot rack and off of our dining room table. Its amazing the amount of stuff you can grow in a tiny patch of dirt next to your garage!
