I had called http://www.bellandisposal.com/ yesterday to reserve the smallest dumpster that they have available. My Dad uses them pretty often, their prices are the best around here (I was amazed at how expensive the company that Home Depot pimps was) and $320 got me a 10 yard dumpster with 1 ton of stuff in it for two weeks ($95 extra for each extra ton). It was delivered this morning to the back of our driveway.
Brian was a busy little man tonight! Not only is all of the stuff from the back yard now in the dumpster, but the trash from the garage is too (parts of our old den bunny hutch, old cabinets that were taken out of the kitchen, our old kitchen counter bits, empty spray paint cans presumably). And, he raked up an area that was under the wood pile that never got cleared last fall, filling 2 paper yard waste bags. This is from the man that I had to teach how to rake leaves last year (he had never really done it before, and didn't know the best way to hold the rake, or how to get the piles out to the curb for vacuuming)! I can see some green plants poking through that were buried under the leaves, my guess perhaps they are the lilly of the valleys that live there (I can't remember when they bloom).
Things weren't packed in there efficiently or anything, and there is still plenty of room. We have some things in the basement to toss and some old windows and doors from the attic that the previous homeowner abandoned to go in there too, but we'll still have a good deal of room left over. My guess is that the weight isn't anything near a ton, so if you live near us and have something to throw in, let me know. Please, just don't show up and toss it in, because we have nosy but well intentioned neighbors, and they probably will come out yelling after having called the cops :)
And now after dance class I'm off to find a snack - 3 hours is really just too much!
