Weekend

Its been a more quiet weekend for us, which is something we needed after the last couple of weeks. I went to an Athena adult novelties party on Friday (so fun, and I bought us some goodies), had dance class on Saturday, saw some kitties, spent some down time, met the fam for breakfast, and are going to the MOS thank you/appreciation lunch today.

Between ballet and unwinding yesterday we went to a cat adoption day at the local Petco, sponsored by the shelter that we've been waiting to hear back on about Charlie (the kitty we'd love to meet). Charlie wasn't there (we didn't think he would be), but we got to meet the adoption coordinator in person and talk to her in person a bit about us, what we're looking for and all that. Kitten distraction was a good thing for us too. I think now that she's put faces to names she'll be more motivated to check our references out and set up time for us to meet him. She said that she'll hopefully call us Monday and get us in to meet Charlie mid-week (if we like him, we could have him by the end of the week). After heading home for dinner and waiting for a friend's party we decided to stay put. After the last week neither of us were up for a crowded house of people (most of which we probably wouldn't know). We watched a good deal of the new Battlestar Galactica (we hadn't seen anything after the pilot miniseries). We've borrowed them from a friend so that we'll be caught up with new things start this summer.

After family breakfast we picked up the bureau from my grandmother's house. Its so weird being in there and seeing things gone, trash everywhere, and the musty smell that comes from being unlived in. The bureau is narrower than the one we have, but taller with deeper, larger drawers (this is a good thing). I didn't know this, but I guess its the set that my grandparents bought when they first got married (that my aunt later owned when they got a newer set). Wow! That means it dates to around the early 40's or so. Here's a wedding pic of them: http://www.diabolis.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=283&pos=23 . I'm hoping to get the thing stripped and refinished in the garage over the next couple of weeks so that I can get it filled and up in the bedroom. Does anyone need a not so attractive but functional bureau (maybe for storage in a basement or attic or spare room or something)? If not its going in the trash. We'll have this up for grabs: http://www.diabolis.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=211&pos=22 . Its a very solid wood bureau but the veneer finish is stripping off in parts.

Other neat things in Gram's house include old, musty books in the attic. We found my Dad's old cub scout's manual, my aunt's old girl scout manual, and a ton of machinist books (which was what my grandfather did). There are also a bunch of old costume pieces and hats - some of which were my great grandmother's from the 1930's or so. Its weird seeing all of this stuff that was around for your childhood and now will most likely end up in the trash. I loved going up in Gram's attic when I was a kid.

If you look here http://tk7602.livejournal.com/802353.html you'll see a pic that someone took of me walking in the Star Wars Weekends parade at MGM last weekend.

The bottom of the mask lays crooked because the top of it is actually warped a bit (we realized after the parade), so we need to take apart the bib part and glue it on crooked so that it offsets the warpedness of the forehead bit.
