Bathroom

We spent a lot of money this weekend, most notably on a new toilet and the bulk of our tile from Home Depot. The special order stuff comes in to Roma Tile in about four weeks so the timing of this all should be interesting.

My car has now passed the toilet test - the toilet, medicine cabinet and some extras fit in the trunk! I didn't want to overload the poor thing, so we went back to get the tile on a separate trip. Its weird, this is the first renovation job where we've utilized the Impala and its been wonderful. Brian's truck was used for the tub and we'll use it for any blueboard, cement board and that kind of thing, but its nice having another option that's not a 9 miles per gallon ride now.

I sat in the (dry) tub with Jayne on Saturday morning. For whatever reason he's really taken to hanging out in there. I was able to put my legs down flat in the bottom and the tub rim is about shoulder-height. Damn! I can't wait to have the thing in use. :)

Music

It will be a good couple of weekends for music. We're going to the Andwutz (and friends) record release show this Friday http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=7874327 . I'm glad that Brian will be able to finally catch The Morgan Knockers, because I know he'll really like them. We hit a Waltham show in Manchvegas at one point so that he could see them but they were a super early opening band and we totally missed their set. Not this time!

The Shadow's Fall/Lacuna Coil show is next Wednesday at Avalon. Shadow's Fall will probably have a short set, so I'm curious to see what they play. Lacuna Coil was not good at Ozzfest, and we're both hoping they redeem themselves (a metal performance should not include matching pinstripe outfits and choreographed, matching headbanging movements).

I finally heard Amy Winehouse this weekend - damn! I think my Mom would actually enjoy her, being a big 60's soul and Motown listener herself. Does she perform with a live band? That would be a really interesting show. Having read an interview with her in the current Bust magazine and seeing what she looked like and then hearing the voice (that sounds like it would be coming out of a 40 year old black woman) was amazing.

On a totally different note, the local Mexican place around the corner http://www.paisanowaltham.com/ has Mariachis on Friday and Saturday nights! Brian and I really want to check that out soon.

I asked before but I'll be more specific now - anyone know where you can go dancing to 80's music on a FRIDAY night? The Phoenix site seems to think Axis, but who knows how out of date that is! :)

Brian and I watched the HD version of Serenity last night at our friend's home on their new massive TV. Damn! I'm sold on HD DVDs now.

Of course, seeing the outfit up close showed that the fabric is indeed a brocade style, and what I have isn't accurate. I figured as much (I didn't have a reference photo with me at the store) but what I bought was fairly inexpensive. It will serve as a good liner, at least. Time to hit Chinatown, methinks (or, have all the cool fabric stores gone away? I almost cried when North End Textiles closed).

Here's her actually in the outfit:

My reference pic has the corner of the scarf/sash thing folded over, and you can clearly see that the front is this more ornate brocade while the underside is more flat.

I found another screen shot that though not a great pic of the actress has a good close-up look at her jewelry. Not bad!

Brian talked with the plumber this morning, and they are ready to start on this Friday.

This means on Thursday night we'll rip a big hole in our bedroom wall where the lingerie cabinet has been residing, so that the plumbers can access the tub pipes from that side. On Friday morning we can use the shower, and then they'll shut everything off and disconnect later that morning. We have plans on Friday night, but we'll have Saturday and Sunday to remove everything that needs removing, prep walls and everything for the tub, and then on Monday the plumber will put in the tub (if we're ready).

And then we tile, tile, tile. And then the toilet and sink can go in. Phew! I really hope it won't be wet this weekend, because we'll need to take Brian's truck for cement board, blueboard, and those kinds of things. Boss-willing, I'll be taking Monday and Tuesday off to try and knock this out (if our progress and supplies allow us to do that).
