I hadn't hit a show in Allson on a weekend in a while. Go parking fu - we didn't have too far to walk from the car after circling a bit.

What a weird show! There were songs from Pantera and Tori Amos and the Grease 2 Soundtrack (Cool Rider). Each of the five members of The Andwutz did mini sets of cover tunes with other friends in bands. I think it was a neat idea actually to mix up the night, and it was fun to see what kinds of songs they'd come up with. They even had fake band names! I know that the music scene of folks hailing from Waltham is vast, but the incestuousness of it doesn't hit you until that kind of show.

Along those lines, it was cool to see people I hadn't in a while, but the Walthamness of the whole thing was kind of overwhelming (I though maybe something was wrong with me for thinking this, but I felt a bit more validated when my brother suggested it too). I'm in a weird place of knowing people since I used to spend a lot of time with them but I haven't done that in a long time. I'm not a complete stranger, but I don't quite belong either. Does that make any sense? I just have a hard time because a show with quick breaks between bands isn't the most conducive to catching up with people you havent seen in 10-15 years.

Mike Mangini was there, and did a really great solo. I think the last time I saw a drum solo was at a Rush show a couple of years ago. Mike hails from Waltham, was the drummer for the band Extreme for a while, and now teaches at Berklee. There was definitely a large group of older people in the crowd (compared to most shows I'm used to), perhaps there to see Mangini and also some parents of younger band members? I noticed that the main guitarist for The Andwutz had her Mom up front cheering her on - her Mom that is a dance teacher from another local studio, and who I've danced with in shows up at the high school (she did most of the tap choreography - I did a kind of rauchy routine to Janet Jackson's "Nasty" which she dreamt up).

Very, very weird - but very, very fun.

I have ballet this morning and then I'll join Brian in the bathroom messmaking. Somebody stop me! :)
