Monkey Suit

We went to http://www.josbank.com last night to get Brian a suit.

We spent more than I was originally planning (my, the cheaper suits really did look cheaper - Knome, we were almost up to where your kick-butt suit was, though I didn't even think to look at what the brand was). Thankfully we ended up getting a free suit through a special they are running right now, so its all good. Who knew that having extensive experience in buying kilts and in sewing costumes would help this process out?

I'm glad we went where we did - it was nice to have someone knowledgeable and willing to work with our learning curve. He was far too amused with the fact that Brian had never owned a suit. Brian ended up with a more formal dark charcoal pinstripe suit with a 3 button jacket (to wear to the black tie optional dinner in September, weddings and funerals). He looked SHARP, despite it needing alterations. Who knew that my husband had square shoulders? They need to take a bit out of the jacket under the neck to accommodate for that (in addition to bringing the sides in a bit, hemming and all of the normal stuff. He also bought a lighter gray 2-button suit (good for interviews and such). They're 100% wool, but thin enough to be year-round. He was instructed to always, always leave the bottom button unbuttoned. In the 3-button jacket he was told to do either the middle or the top 2 but never the bottom. Of course Brian had to ask why even put a button there then. The guy was amused by his computer geek questioning all night.

Of course, when I went roaming around to find a tie that would match the dress I'm wearing in September the one and only one I liked was $140. What!? it was this really neat Art Nouveau stained-glass looking tie! I relented to the next best which turned out to be 100% silk, Italian, mostly dark and on sale (we paid only $15 for it). I also bought a matching silk handkerchief. Brian's got a decent shirt already at home and he's got dress shoes, so he's all set for September. I'm glad we have that out of the way and won't need to think about it any more.

Now that the painful expense is out of the way I'm looking to start fresh with a new budget: new month, some planning tonight and my favorite time of the year ahead of us (which is usually the most costly) - Dragoncon, the fall and the winter holiday season.
