A breather

Now that I'm a bit more caught up at work I can post something kind of substance. :) Brian and I had a good time at Dragoncon BUT are quite done with it. I was kind of there last year and he got there this year. The crowds were way too out of control. Though there were lots of cool costumes the numbers seem to dwindle each year. Far too many panels, dances and whatever were just repeats of what's been done in previous years. I loved dressing up, seeing the costumes and hanging out with friends, but we're pretty sure we can do that in other ways. We're not drinkers so the parties aren't a draw for us.

All in all the drive (1000 miles each way) wasn't bad. I was gassed up when we left and only spent $200 on gas during the drive. Seeing how other parts of the US function is fascinating - I wasn't expecting ash trays actually *inside of* bathroom stalls. I highly recommend AAA triptix. I ran one that took us away from traffic messes down (GW Bridge anyone?) and the maps were excellent. SPECIAL THANKS TO MISTY, CHRIS, ERIC AND RACHEL FOR HOSTING US MIDWAY! The hotel screwed up our charges on the valet parking so instead of paying $24 a day for the 5 days owed they charged us $24 total (heh). We were good about not spending a lot of money on food or stuff. Part of that was due to the fact that they were selling a lot of the same stuff as years past and we didn't want any of it.

If anything, Dragoncon always provides inspiration for our own projects around home. We have lots of ideas for costumes or props. I'll be working on garb with some fabric that I dug out of the attic - free supplies are good supplies(we're hitting at least one fall faire)! After talking about it for a few years we're finally making visitors (http://thevisitors.info/) Halloween costumes. Given my hair I'll be Diana (I can live with the inaccurate brown eyes - hers were blue) and Brian will be a generic lizard grunt. :) He wants to find some gummy mice for us to munch on and he's already got a resin kit for the blaster (purchased at DC three years ago)! A vendor at the con this year was selling screen-used costumes, so it was cool for us to be able to look at them close up - my the red faded to orange over the time since things aired! I'd also love to do Padme's Episode II Fireside Gown (finally) for Supermegafest; its in Framingham in mid-November so there is plenty of time. Somewhere in there knitting will happen for the holidays. I'll be taking on some more time at the dance studio helping folks out and have taken on some more tech related tasks. I've started this http://www.peggymcglonedancestudio.com which will be fleshed out with more info as its developed (a history, more pics, class info, info on teaching special needs students). I'm looking forward to the fall and playing with all of these things time-willing.

Tonight is the big work shindig and I do have to say that my husband looks damned hot in a nice dark 3-button pinstriped suit. Pictures later! :)
