We kind of went on a moratorium for working on the house over the summer. Fall is here and I'm looking forward to picking away at some small projects when there is time. I had bought an antique style doorbell (inspriation from seeing one at the Di's house) and I want to sand our front door and paint it a color that's not obnoxious bright blue. Not sure when - soon. It will only cost the quart of paint. :) Similarly I want to do some final patch work in our hallways and pick up a gallon of paint for that. Its the only surface we haven't painted that the former homeowners messed with.

In the cooler weather we need heavier curtains in our den. If you look at my icon pic of the house its the room that's all windows on the right side (a former porch that's since been winterized). Last year we bought a bunch of cheap white blankets at Building 19 and hung them up behind our regular thin curtains. This year I'm wondering if I should sew them together so that they are all one normal curtain and keep them up year-round. Or maybe I should make something else. Or buy something. The latter two options could be pricy - there is a lot of window in there. I'm not happy with what we've got though - its just to much uniformity:

Any suggestions for heavy curtains that aren't so expensive? The cheapest (no cost) would be to refashion these somehow with the blankets, perhaps making them shorter so that there isn't so much blue showing. Next perhaps I could find some fabric for cheap and make some - maybe there is some funky tiki flannel or fleece or something? Or just leave them alone, clipping the blankets behind the curtains again. What would you do? I'd like to break up the blue in the room a bit more.
