Merry Christmas to me
Dec. 19th, 2008 02:24 pmBrian received a $500 Amex gift card from work the other day. He bought himself some Fleuvog's that he was eyeing, since he goes through shoes so quickly and these guys are not only hot and go well with a kilt or pants, they can be re-soled:

He was having a hard time figuring out what to get me for Xmas, so decided that I should go out with him and pick out something frivolous with the remaining credit on the card. Thinking during my drive into work this morning, I remembered the Pandora charm bracelets that I've read about and seen on a woman at dance class. When I was a kid I had a silver charm bracelet, and I remember enjoying receiving charms to add at special occasions - I had one for my astrological sign, one for my first communion, one with ballet slippers. I'm not sure what ever happened to the thing but its long gone. I've thought here and there about getting another bracelet of this type and I really liked the look of the Pandora ones. I'm not big into jewelery but I really do like funky, personal and sentimental designs. I also like getting some kind of jewelery item to remember occasions in my life (its a popular travel souvenier for me).
A jeweler in Waltham sells them http://shop.descar.com/ and seemed like the perfect townie place to support, so we went over before the snow started coming to pick one out and to grab lunch next door at D'Angelos. This also makes gift-giving in the future a bit easier for Brian too. They had cookies and candies out in the store, introduced us all around (to employees and the regular customers that were there, including his cute black pug Bailey). It was a very pleasant experience and I'll definitely keep them in mind if I need a gift for someone and want a local spot for it.
I picked out A silver bracelet with the signature clasp (it will take some getting used to for closing the thing by myself, though I can do it with some fighting):

2 clips to divide the bracelet into sections (Brian picked this style out):

A teapot charm:

A rabbit charm:

There were two colored glass charms that I liked online and they didn't have, so they are going to order them for me and call when they are in. The green one is to represent me and the purple one, Brian:

I commented that I thought it odd that they didn't have any dance related charms, but she said that a separate company http://www.chamilia.com/home.htm makes similar sized charms and offers a ballet slipper one, and that they could order it for me (they can't sell both brands under the same roof apparently, but they can order from a sister company or something).
