Traffic was the suck last night; it took me 3 hours to get home. The funny thing was, after traffic I didn't feel like cooking dinner and I knew that Brian had a shitty day at work. I stopped and grabbed dinner for us, turned all our holiday lights on, and lit the fireplace thinking I'd surprise him when he got home. He walked in with flowers thinking he'd surprise ME since I was having a shitty commute home (I called him to warn about the traffic). Hee hee, gotta love irony! That's like, the 2nd or third time in 9 years that he's bought me flowers :)

I cut out the fabric for the last Christmas project last night. I wish I could think of something to make myself with the stuff (its fleece), its so cute! Here's hoping I can get sewing time in this weekend.

We ordered our ROTK tickets for Sunday morning at around 10:00, damned too much stuff to do! It will be a busy weekend, but its nice not having to worry about when I'll work on homework.

Fricken Walgreens sold out of the fricken candy can pens! I have to hit the others that I know of and see if I can find some (yes, I am that lame :) ).

I think life is all about balance, and I try to make my own that way, and help my friends when they need to find it too. Some people just obsess over minutue rather than getting out there and doing things that make a difference. This is all related to one joking comment on a mailing list that blew up into a huge discussion on labels and gender. I'm all for discussion back and forth - that's one of the ways we can learn about our environments and be better citizens - but there is absolutely no need for name calling, what does it accomplish?

Lately I've come to the 'laughing at people' points too much lately. You know, after you've seen so much silliness that you don't complain or get frustrated or angry anymore - you just laugh?

On a serious note, the Archbishop of The Archdiocese of Boston has announced that churches will be closed in 2004 due to lack of funds (they'll be announced starting in June). I'm curious to see which ones are the ones to go . . . it will be so sad if my childhood churches are no more. As it is its pretty weird that my Elementary School is an office building, the convent was turned into a school for acupuncture and the high school/junior high building is broken up into a head start program and classrooms for the CCD (the church still owns it). We shall see... Here's a link:

I think that the person to whom I suggested that they are either clueless or an ass could be excused by the fact that perhaps they did not receive all the other mails in the thread in order. To me, it felt like they hadn't even bothered to think about what they were writing, and they were a little late in the game to be making flippant jokes. I don't know - I guess it's all well and good to be apathetic if you're part of the majority and no one is ever going to discriminate you or beat you up for who you are. Otherwise, I thought the conversation was very civil. Jedi, for example, is willing to see both sides and I betcha he sees all girls as girls regardless of their drivers' license.

I don't know - it's dumb. There is either this pissing contest of how politically active you are, how much you recycle, reduce waste blah blah blah - or people tell you that you're not allowed to have any opinion at all. I don't see how someone I've never met can judge my environmental impact on the world, for example, and say that I'm worse with my little locally-farmed tree than the millions of other Americans who don't give a shit about the environment at all.

I am wondering what they will do with all those old churches. They would make awesome condos! However, I do worry about the little old ladies who couldn't make it across town to attend another church (or other similarly less-than-mobile folks).

I guess they are going to survey church attendance among other things. Maybe it is their hope that it will increase attendance and participation when people realize they might lose their church. Sorta like lots of people showed up at Manray last Friday.

I hit that point not long ago, never looked back, and it's so much better than letting the little people get to you. Just laugh and continue to do what you do.

Boobies.

Let's bring back the discussion to what's important.

I refrained to comment because, frankly, regardless of your gender identity, it's not Manray's job to police that. And I seriously, seriously doubt that our mutual friend was trying to insult anyone. Since he's perfectly capable of defending himself, and I know for a cold hard fact he's neither an ass not clueless, I didn't say anything.

That was nothing, however, compared to the "women" vs. "girls" discussion. Jesus H. Christ!

Again, I say, boobies. If this goes on I'll have no choice but to bring back public, inadvisable flirting to the list.

I know someone who lives in a converted church in London. 3rd floor flat, so in his kitchen he has various bits of stonecarving fromthe tops of windows and things - very nifty.

That was lots ? Looked half dead to me.

Compared to Wednesday - of course, it's always more compared to Wednesday but I was hoping it was enough to make Cusrasque happy.

Duh, it would be if they had a "girls get in free" policy. Thus the discussion?

no, hon, because I'll bet you that, faced with how complicated the issue would get with our crowd, they would either a) not do it b) or go by an obvious (albeit unfair) external criteria (the driver's license thing).

And I actually chose the wrong words, they would police it, they just would have to either not define it or define it very simply.

You did make one very important point. Being outed jsut because of your driver's license would be seriously wrong.

I don't think it would work, either way.

When I thought about it, I would lose respect for Manray for using such a tactic. I take advantage of Ladies' Nights if it's happening somewhere I want to go, but I don't respect the concept.

well, we never got into that, but frankly neither do I.

Particularly because I personally know women who go to bars to mooch drinks off guys. I would expect our crowd to be better than that.

Hee hee!

You're really funny Carlos :) I myself, saw that in action last Friday.

really? Then the men are dumber than I thought. I should consider myself lucky then. It's been a while since I bought a drink for anyone not a friend or SO.

I was actually comparing to Fridays that I was used to when I went to Hell regularly - times when it was difficult to move around even in the lounge because of all the people.

They did have a ladies "hell" night. The ladies at said hell night were defined as anyone who was a woman. This included the cross-dressers & any self-identified females.

So, maybe they wouldn't go according to the license.
