I didn't read the whole stack of journal articles yesterday but I took a serious dent out of it. My brain was mush by 4:30 (when I finally hopped in the shower). I'm hoping this semester to get reading and work for my Monday class done by Tuesday at work so that I'm able to spend the rest of the week and the weekend focusing on the Master's Paper.
I had woken up at around 10:00 AM and after starting hot water for tea went out to grab the paper. I saw a cruiser and SUV across the street blocking their driveway but didn't think much of it - they are both police officers.
It turns out that a guy and his 10 year old son (!) tried to break into the house. Our nice and nosey neighbor Vinnie saw them force their way in the back door and called the cops. He walked over at around 4:00 to let us know "what was going down in the neighborhood". The cops chased them with guns waving and finally caught the guy only to find out he's got a mile-long record and is also wanted in New Mexico. Vinnie also told us that another house a couple down from us was robbed earlier in the week (wonder if its the same guy . . . ). I doubt this will even make the paper which makes me wonder how often houses in any neighborhood are broken in to and yet street residents don't have any clue.
Heh, so having a police sergeant and the town's domestic violence detective living across the street from you doesn't really offer any additional security in the hood (beyond them getting pissy if you park in front of their house during a snow storm). It looks like its time to inventory our DVDs and CDs. Its a good idea anyway, so now I guess there is some motivation to do it. :)
