Dancing Leia

So as many great ideas happen, it started out as a joke.
I was working on an ANH Leia dress and Brian was commenting how it was so unsexy with its ankle length hem, long sleeves, and buns on the side of my head. He mentioned that I really should make a slave Leia outfit (for the 100th time) and I joked that I'd make one and bellydance to the Cantina song in it. He and Aaron seemed to think that was a good idea.
I've been taking lessons for about 5 years now off and on and my student show is 6/25. I guess I'm kind of at intermediate level now, and I'm doing my first solo to try and force myself into choreography which I've always had a difficult time with. I had picked out a song, but I was having a hard time coming up with a routine and a costume. Yesterday I kept mulling that Cantina song idea. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all. My teachers thought it was great. The theme of our show is "Circles and Cycles" and doing a SW dance would be appropriate given that the movies are at the end of their cycle. Plus, there are usually a couple of comical dances in the show and mine would fit that bill (for those that got it).
I came home last night to listen to the song. Damn, its the perfect length! I hadn't really thought about it before, a lot of the music is just plain ole Charleston (which I can do well given other dance experience). Its fun music, I know the music, and possible moves kept jumping into my head.
So its looking like I'll be dressed in a costume based on the Slave Leia outfit (there will be more to it, so I don't fall out while dancing in it) and I'll be bellydancing to the Cantina song. Freaky! Here's info on the student show if anyone is interested in checking it out: http://www.thegoddessdancing.com/showcase_2005.htm . I'll also be in 2 other dances (to "Circle Dream" by 10,000 Maniacs and to "Cleopatra" by a Surf Rock band - I can't remember the band's name but the album title is "Shark Attack").
This should be very interesting.
