Something incredibly close to our house was hit by lightening last night. It was close enough to cause the loudest lightening noise I've heard and to make everything shake in our house. Apparently it was also enough power surge to kill both our cable modem and the receiver for our entertainment system (despite being on expensive suppressors). Ah well, it could have been our house that the thing hit instead.

The weekend was nice and went by too quickly as usual. We skipped Xmortis on Friday so that we could spend a night together, went to a terribly boring convention on Saturday that we had committed to do http://www.cauldroncon.com , and spent yesterday around the city running errands, doing things around the house that have needed getting done for quite a while. We saw the family for a bit on Friday and Sunday.

We also checked out the official new opening of the Hannaford Supermarket yesterday (formerly known as Victory, formerly known as Shaws, formerly known as the Waltham Supermarket) where they had tons of free goodies to try, bands, magicians and Richie's Slush. The place reminds me a lot of Wild Oats in that its got a good deal of natural/yuppie and bulk foods in addition to the generic staples you'd find at Stop and Shop. They have a meat department now with a counter (versus just the prepackaged stuff out for grabs) with a selection akin to Whole Foods and have more prepared foods and made to order prepared food options. Their produce is arranged very interestingly, with islands just for tomatoes, just for onions, just for bananas, just for various exotic fruits. If week one means anything the price is right; we came in under our weekly budget by around $50 or so.

On the budget note, I think I'm going to for the meantime just focus on generally 'getting things in order' for a while and stick with the car I have. I don't need a bigger/faster/newer whatever car now, so for the moment mine is just fine for my needs. The thought of owning a car outright for the first time in many years definitely appeals to me, and I think holding on and getting a hybrid Vue (whenever they come out) would be a more economical long term option for me. I'll suffer through the rest of this summer without an AC since (hopefully) we've only got a month at the most of this heat and humidity, but I'll most likely end up fixing it next spring despite the high cost and try to get through another year or two with the car before replacing it. Its treated me well in the past, so I still want to keep her going for the time being. Considering Brian will be buying a new(er) car soon I think it makes sense for me to hold off given that I don't have the same kinds of issues going against mine that he has against his. Not to mention, he's got a lot more income to throw at a new car than I do at the moment. :)

I'm hitting the gym for pilates class tonight after work and hopefully we'll get to see the http://www.movingwallwaltham.org/ before it goes away. I know this cool weather won't be lasting too long, but I'll try and savor it while its here.
