The Netgoths are going skating at the Frog pond Saturday at 5:00 (you should go too). That got me thinking of skating days past. I've been DYING to go rollerskating again :)

I found this place from my brother: http://www.rollerkingdom.com/

So, skating and lazer tag anyone? I wonder if they have video games too (to amuse those not skilled in the art of skating around in a circle with strobe lights and disco ball).

There's also a roller-rink in my city (way closer than trecking my butt out to Tyngsboro) but they don't have the cool lighting effects :)

i am bad at ice skating and roller blading, but good at roller skating (i.e., 4 wheels)

i haven't been to roller kingdom since i was eight, i think. :) yes, they have video games. it's a pretty cheesy place... they play top-40 stuff all the time, although i think on sunday evenings they have an 18+ night. i'd be up for going.

I used to go to Roller Kingdom every Friday & Saturday as a young teen. Friday was heavy metal night and Saturday was hiphop night. I had incredible calves from all that.

I do still have rollerskates - white ones with pink wheels. But I bet most people would be on rollerblades these days. Regardless, if we get a big netgoth trip to go, I'll go too. Nevertheless, I suspect it will be mostly teenagers there.

That's why I'd like to go (I was always MUCH better at roller skating than ice skating or roller blading)

Heh,

I wish they still played the 80's music there (though from the looks of the site its going to be all Top 40 pop stuff).

Do you think there would be enough there to amuse non-skaters?

Can you rent skates there? I'd need to do that :)

let's roll

Wow, this sounds like a fantastically fun idear. I wouldn't mind going out to Tyngsboro, I went to this rollerrink in Arlington which was completely dingy and rundown; fun but dreary.

Worth the trouble for Private Goth Skate Party? RollerKingdom wants $125/hour, 2 hours minimum. If we get 30 people that's around $4/hour... hmm. I'd happily lay down $10 - $15 for a few hours of roller skating... especially if they let us load up their PA system with our own music. Again.. hmmmm.

You can rent skates there, for sure. Rollerblades or regular skates.
They do have video games that I recall. That lasertag thing must be new. There was a large area to just hang out and have pizza, and watch the skaters. I don't know - I think it would be fun, but I don't know how many non-skaters would enjoy it. Because the music will be ultracheesy. Eh, I would love to do it for nostalgia's sake and because it would be great exercise! I wonder if I can still skate?

Heh, I wonder if they still have the games - like the hokey pokey or the races.

I think that's a great idea too . . . I wonder if they'd be up for letting someone else use their equiptment (or if someone could just make huge MP3 mixes and play them somehow).

I would hope that we'd be able to get around 30 people, given all of the splinter goth lists in Boston :)

Heh, I've never seen it before - I say we try and rent it tonight :)

(that is - if we can get our sticks-in-the-mud SOs to agree with it)

You're reading my mind aren't you?
There's a laser tag placein Randolph and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in an outing, and you took the burden RIGHT off my back! *grin*
I haven't been skating in years, but I'm willing to try as long as I get to chase after people and shoot them somewhere in there.

I'm going to drop by Blockbuster on the way home and see if they have it (I seem to remember that they've expanded their musicals selection) since its the only place that we have a membership to now . . .

Did they also do the cheezy "couples-only" skates (they did that at the Wal-Lex too, though friends just would skate around together). Another favorite was the bunny hop (which is just scary on rollerskates IMO) :)

Yes Dear, but remember - heavy metal was "cool" (read, mainstream) in the 80's. We're gonna be boppin' it to Brittany now :)

Did they have velcro? Dude, you're my idol now :)

i love roller skating!!

i mean, i'm absolutely awful at it and will probably break myself.
but i'd love to give it a go anyway!

and i think the goth-skating idea was really nifty.
i'd definitely be willing to pay for fun tunes.

*giggle* i haven't been roller skating since i was 10...

I won some lessons, and thus I actually bought really quad roller skates, nice ones too. When the teacher found out I had a professional skater in the family, it was kamikaze me all over the place, trying to stay upright through these insane dances and moves. Ice skates are much easier, the blade just goes straight, while roller skates (not the rentals, but the skates with the action adjusted), go all over the place until you get used to them. It is really funny if there are mirrors.

I think this is something I just might do, I love skating.
I have 4 pair of roller blades, roller skates, and 2 pair ice skates. It gets me through the winter. I am not so good, but who cares, it is fun. I have heard that Atlanta has regular gothic roller skating nights... about time we had that here.

Velcro? No...

I had laces that were half the same florescent green and half black to match the half and half wheels and the black skates -- and the florescent green front stopper.

They were kick-ass.
