Nov. 21st, 2005 12:00 pmI'm at home today. I started coming down with a cold yesterday and this morning at 5:45 AM when I got up to take care of the animals before my shower I felt like death warmed over. After sleeping till 10:30, blowing my nose quite a bit, and drinking A LOT of Irish Breakfast tea (I *heart* my Bodum pot) I'm feeling better. I'm sure I'll be at the office tomorrow, and I feel bad about missing it today (though I know I'd have been pretty useless there had I gone in at around 7:00 as planned). I happened to catch a 1/2 hour show on VH1 that showed all classic metal videos (now they've moved onto jazzy pop). I guess daytime TV isn't all that bad. Sitting around on my butt and not doing anything makes me feel pretty useless. I know that to get over a cold i've got to rest a bit, its just tough to let myself do it.
This weekend's Megafest was a lot of fun and also thought provoking. It was nice to provide some more atmosphere to con-goers and its always fun interacting with other costumed characters and excited patrons. It also serves to inspire me for future costuming, and reiterate or clarify feelings of group politics and such. I'm looking forward to taking a break from trooping until sometime after the holidays.
Dad called us Friday night and left a message that they'd host Thanksgiving dinner after all. On Saturday morning he let himself in (Brian was at the con, I was at ballet class) to fix the broken radiator in our dining room. I think he felt bad or something - I had commented to my Mom on the phone that morning that our first floor was a bit cold what with having our kitchen walls open (and no insulation, our house is 100+ years old with plaster and lathe), a broken fitting on the dining room radiator (we shut it off since it was spewing water and hadn't yet replaced that fitting) and no heat in the adjoining den. Here's hoping we can get a plumber in here soon to hook up the radiator in the den.
Have a great week all! Things have been getting crazy and out of control here, so I'm going to be spending less time around the computer if I can avoid it (outside of work stuff) . . .
