The proof is in the pants
Jul. 7th, 2006 05:44 pmI did some yardwork this afternoon (planted herbs, weeded the hell out of a few parts of our yard, started to try and train an old climbing rose bush around a new metal trellis, and spread 7 bags of mulch). WOW! The Mahoney's Garden Center in Winchester is freaking massive! I was heading home from work so I hit the Lowes in Woburn first and got a couple of things and stopped at Mahoney's for the rest.
I got pretty dirty and sweaty with the gardening, so I quickly hopped in the shower before Brian was due home. First - I tried my new Lush charcoal/licorice face soap. It was pretty neat, though time will tell how it works. It did cost a lot of money for the bar ($20, ouch) but it was a huge bar, and I've got to imagine it will last me a long time (perhaps longer than the cleanser I've been buying in a tube from St. Ives at the supermarket).
But Second - after showering I put on a pair of cargo pants that I *almost* loved. I love them now though. I've posted here about being in between pants sizes, and having issues with them in general due to my wacked hip to waist ratio. These things fit before, but they *just* fit around the largest part of my hips, and as such made the poorly placed pockets kind of bulge open (the next size up was swimming on me, so It was either buy the snug/unflattering one or buy the huge unflattering one). THEY DON'T BULGE OPEN ANYMORE! Today has been the first time I've felt a noticable difference with weight loss, and how things are fitting. They look like they actually fit me! They feel like they actually fit me!
I still haven't made progress with the iron yet. I'd love to find some kind of good at home solution, because with what I pay for dance classes during the year it would kill me to pay for other classes or a gym on top of that (I have the funds, but I should really be directing them to something else, like credit card debt or something more useful). I did hear back from the gym at work, and since my company doesn't subsidize the memberships the rate isn't worth me going there. Sure its convenient, but there are way better gyms I could easily get to that cost less and are much nicer. Ah well, I'll see. Eating better and dropping some weight has had me jonesing for more activity. Cardio is no issue at all, because of dancing, walking, and the potential to skate and bike around my neighborhood. What I'm missing is weights, and I'm confident that I can do pushups, crunches, and some arm/back exercises with the various workout DVDs I have and/or my dumbells. The whole thing just hasn't clicked for me yet. Since I'm used to taking 2 dance classes a week, I wonder how taking 1 dance class and one strength class at the gym down the street would work out? Perhaps it would give me the knowledge and structure I'd need to work out at home? Hrm. Someone this weekend told me to get a kettlebell, but I'm not sure I want to go there yet, if I have enough room in my house to use one (we have a ceiling fan in every room) and I haven't the faintest idea of where to get them.
