Brian and I tried the new Mexican/Guatemalan place on High Street last night (we didn't feel like cooking, so the turkey burgers will wait till this weekend). Its in the building of the former Buckaroos, which had been there across from the Calvary Cemetery for as long as I can remember. My Nana lived across the street in a brick apartment building for a few years after selling her home post Grampy's death, and she said they had a great breakfast. Ah well, change can be good! Paisano's seems much larger inside than Buckaroo's was, so I wonder if some back rooms were opened up in the construction for dining spaces.

Here's their URL: http://www.paisanowaltham.com/

The prices were very reasonable, and we even had a coupon to use that we received in one of the mass mailers that goes to all residents (buy one item, get one free). There were a lot of interesting things on the menu, but for a first time Brian and I figured we'd get something we could compare to other menu items we eat often at other similar restaurants. I chose the Enchiladas De Pollo with green sauce and Brian had 3 Tacos Mexicanos with pork (similar to a dish he gets at Anna's Taqueria). So good! The staff was friendly, accommodating, and the place seems to have already gathered a good deal of regular customers from the sounds coming from the booths around us. We will definitely be joining that group. Everything was very flavorful without being overdone, the rice was so good and very authentic home-style (like the stuff they serve at Taqueria de Mexico). Rice isn't something you usually get excited about, but it had such a nice soaked in cilantro flavor to it, really fresh!

The only downside to the place I think is the tiny parking lot, though street parking is allowed around it. Brian and I will be walking down there, but decided to drive last night due to the impending rain (which we never got a lot of after all).

So if you're in our neck of the woods and like that kind of food, give it a try! :) Next time we'll be more adventurous and try one of the Guatemalan dishes, because there were a good deal of options that sounded really yummy on the menu!

Good to know, since Paisano's is halfway between my work and your house! ;)
