Brian and I are big fans of http://www.penzeys.com/, thanks to Dionysia and Dionysious who introduced us to their catalog on our first visit to their current home. I did the dance of joy when they opened a retail store in Arlington Heights. Around that time they were also coming out with their new magazine, http://www.penzeysone.com/cgi-bin/one/index.html . We received issue 6 the other day, and I've been spending some time over the last few days catching up (I hadn't finished issue 4, and hadn't even cracked issue 5).

If you like food, but most of all are interested in the role food plays in life, in families and in tradition you'll enjoy this magazine. Most items lack fancy ingredients or preparation, but I find that its only for a special occasion that Brian and I will cook like that anyway. Reading this always makes me excited about cooking, and reminds me of cooking traditions in my own home, with my grandmothers, and that I've heard of other friends having.

After Dragoncon I'm looking forward to some time around the house cooking for ourselves again, because I'm sure that after 5 days of hotel and mall food court eating we'll be craving it.

The fall is really the most wonderful time of the year for me, and I'm hoping to spend a good deal of time digging into these recipes that people have been kind enough to share from their own families.
