I started working on the Inara Battle bodice last night http://serenifly.tripod.com/serenityinara6.html . Well, worked on as in cut out some pattern pieces and then went shopping. I found some fabric that's close to the embroidered-looking paisley stuff on the top back and top front. I also picked up the gold elastic trim that hangs off of it - putting that stuff on should be interesting! I found some black pleather in the attic so I'm all set with that, and I have some gold fabric that's doable (though I'd like to keep my eye out for something better - what I have isn't textured enough). Once Brian's done with his current Jayne gun project he's going to get working on my crossbow.
Bellydancers - any idea on where I could get supplies for the beading on the arm band? If I could find some ready-made armbands or chokers that looked kind of like it I could affix it to the leather bands. I'm not looking for 100% accurate, but a close approximation. I'm doing this more for the experience of construction (and because Brian wants to make that crossbow). :)
Brian and I got his new Boba Jet Pack rigged up last night, so we're all set for tomorrow's troop. We'll be at a benefit for http://moonfinderbeams.blogspot.com/ and her family tomorrow. Poking around I found a neat article about her brave 10 year old cousin who piloted the boat to get over to her and her Dad in the water: http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070609/NEWS/706090333 .
'FUN'DRAISER SCHEDULED FOR BOATING ACCIDENT VICTIM
Woonsocket, RI (July 19, 2007) – A 'Fun'draiser is being held on Wednesday, July 25 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Let’s Party, 11 Money Hill Rd., Chepachet, RI to raise money for Orien Rose Laplante. The eight-year old girl was seriously injured in a boating accident on the Sakonnet River on May 27th.
“We wanted to do something to help the family cover the medical expenses as both parents were out of work for more than a month while Orien was admitted to Hasbro Children’s Hospital,” said Jennifer Jolicoeur, organizer of the 'Fun'draiser.
The 'Fun'draiser will include refreshments, a live band, a comedian, a magic show, a silent auction with over $4,000 worth of gift baskets and an appearance by the Star Wars 501st characters. All proceeds will benefit the Laplante family.
“A number of area businesses have donated their time, energy and efforts to this event and we couldn’t be more appreciative. Miba Design in Woonsocket designed the flyers and tickets, The Allied Group in Cranston, RI printed everything for the event and Let’s Party donated their facility for us to use. None of this would have been possible without their generosity,” said Jolicoeur
“This 'Fun'draiser is something that Orien’s mother Christine would do for others and that’s a big part of why we are doing this for her and their family.”
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children with children under 5 admitted for free. They can be purchased at the door the day of the event, or to purchase tickets ahead of time, make a donation or to learn more about the event, please contact Jennifer Jolicoeur at 401-762-6110 x-13 or by e-mail at jennifer@athenashn.com .
