I found some black leather gloves at a thrift store for $2 to work into my Inara outfit. I also found a dress there for $8 that will be perfect for the shindig dance at Dragoncon. Its not even remotely close enough for me to try and alter it to look like the real thing, but its curiously similar to Inara's own shindig gown: http://serenifly.tripod.com/ffinara_gown.html . If there's time I may tweak it a bit, but at least its fine as-is.

Please note, all the pics below are of the original costume from the Prop Store of London Auction, not of my rendition.

As for the gloves, I cut one apart to serve as the hand piece and cut the wristband off the other to serve as the wrist piece link . I had some old pleather to cut for the arm band link but sewing it wasn't happening on my machine - I'll need to use Brian's more heavy duty one. I found an arm guard similar to what she was wearing online last week - it only cost $6 and its already arrived at my house link . I spent some time yesterday sewing a pleather band onto my pants link
which was kind of awkward given that the pants originally had an elastic waist. I have some hand mending to do to make it look normal but its on there, which is the important thing. :)

As far as the jewels for the glove and armband I ordered a couple of bellydance belts that looked similar to her beads that I'll attach to the leather somehow. I spent a while looking at handflowers but given the chain that goes up to the armband and the additional rectangular beading for the armband I figured 3 chain belts would be better. The finish is all gold on them, so if I have time I'll paint some of them white to look pearl-like as some of hers are.

I'm trying to figure out where to go with the bodice now. I know that some bellydancers make bra tops by covering an existing bra with fabric. I'm debating if I should try and construct the front that way and then create the back when I have my dress form. This would allow me to keep working on it during the week - I should have the dress form by the end of next weekend but I still need all of the time I can get. It would also allow me to figure out how to put in the gold threading that is in the front of the bodice link

Or maybe that's just me wimping out with drafting the whole thing? I keep going back and forth on whether it would be better to create from scratch or use something else as a base.

Brian's chugging away on his bow construction. He's such a creative guy! We're both trying to figure out if we want to enter the DC costume contest with these . . . the Whedon track is sponsoring their own.

When I'm building a bra top, I'll buy a bra with good fitting cups. Then I cut all the strapping off and replace it with something non-stretchy, as bounce is generally a bad thing when dancing and a non-stretchy base is much easier to decorate, since you don't have to worry about threads stretching and breaking. Once I've built my new bra, I decorate on top of it.

You know what might work well for that top, though? Decorating bra cups to match and then making a u-neck vest to wear on top of the bra. Here's an example of a u-necked top with long sleeves, but it should give you the idea. Oh, here's a sleeveless one.

Thanks for the tips on building a bra. I knew somebody reading this would have some ideas!

I had thought of the U-necked top before. I'm going to try for something more like the original but if time is running out a may run that route. :)
