I would have liked to have had more but B doesn't take pictures of EVERYTHING like I do. We're going back today to look at it with my Dad (a contractor) and if he doesn't find any major utility/structural issues we're going to make an offer.
This is very weird for me - usually I'll look around at 10 billion alternates before making a decision to do anything. But we REALLY like this house, the area, all about it. And the price is good (we'd even pay asking price - though of course we'll make an offer for lower). Our options buying in this city are limited since the prices are so high and most of the other houses on the market in our price range are styles we don't like (Ranch) or are teeny tiny and right on top of the neighbor (in the North side of the city).
I know there are many houses in general in the market (i.e. outside of this city too) but we'd like to stay here. We'd definitely be paying for the convenience of location and for the recent yuppification. I guess - we're thinking that it would be a better investment than an area that hasn't seen any development in years.
I would totally kick myself if we passed this one up to look at 5-10 more and then came back only to find it sold . . .
So this is totally not dancer-like but we want it. I'm not getting TO excited yet because I know that anything could happen with it. But I'm crossing my fingers. It HAS been on the market for 21 days (I'm guessing because its an old house and because its in a busier part of the city). But I love this part of the city, I KNOW this part of the city since I grew up only 5 blocks away. No matter where I live (off of Moody in this house or elsewhere), I'll always be a South Side girl :)
I'd love to still be walking distance from the http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Market/Boston/EmbassyCinema.htm , from the many restaurants on Moody Street, from the Charles River and from the Watch Factory http://www.waltham-community.org/phWatchFactory.html . I like living in a place that has so much history http://www.discoverwaltham.com/index.html .

You both know what you need and want, so you don't have to waste time doing research on everything.
You both know your not going to get the "Perfect" house right now,
so every house you look at will have something or the other that you don't like.
I think most people have to look around more because they ether don't want, don't have the money, or don't know how, to update or change the things they don't like about the house.

Date: 2002-04-13 07:41 am (UTC)My friend Abby lived in an apartment in Warwick RI that had a room like that, slightly curved, with HUGE windows. She got natural light all day without any direct light. She set up her sewing machine and worked on her projects there, it was like a living room/dining room combo. They used one of the back rooms as a living room. But, if not for her sewing, this would have made a great sitting room, with all sorts of plants and maybe a couple of fishies.
I bet Max would love it. With a bunch of plants, and a little kitty seat. *sappy grin*
Although that BASEMENT! Ohmigawd! How many cans of paint do you need?! And is that a leak from the oil heater, the one from the Second World War? Wow. You should be able to get the price down on that alone, it'll need some work.

Date: 2002-04-14 03:55 am (UTC)We're going to look at another one today with him (one that went on the market last night - its a teeny bit newer and from the outside looked more modern). There would be less space in it, could be cheaper and less room for expansion (no attic to renovate, no yard to expand out into if we wanted to) so we're still leaning toward the blue one on the Rat-tail lot). But its worth a look anyway.
Weird - our searching COULD be over today if things go as we'd like them to . . . just odd!

NOT ancient and leaking.
Definately a hazard.
And even if (read when) it's replaced, I'd STILL pull down the price, you never know what might crop up because of it.
I alsmot think you and B might be happier with a bit of a fixer upper, something for him to build with. But yes, for the bit of a fixer upper it is, it's too expensive.
Well at least we know why it's still on the market.
