Do you have one?
Do you use it?
Should I get one?

You can have mine, if you want to try one out--for a couple of years I used it all the time, but I started cutting refined flour out of my diet and it doesn't work so well with heavy grains. It was lovely to have fresh warm bread in the mornings, though.

If you really aren't going to use it any more, I'd love to buy it off of you. :)

I didn't pay anything for it, so don't worry about the money! I'll send it over with M :)

We had one that we inherited from my mom. I remember when I was younger, she made bread every day - starting it in the morning and taking it out at night. It made the house smell wonderful. Then came the years of low-carb diets (previously we were on lowfat diets so bread was OK) - hence I inherited it. I've used it a few times- could use it more. It's nice on holidays to bake fresh bread and have it do the job for you. that said, we live in Boston with so many great bakeries so it isn't getting a lot of use...When Pigs Fly is less than a mile away.

I brown-bag my lunch, so my bread machine is one of the most-used contraptions I own. I do have to use half white flour, but the rest is whatever I want (currently a mix of whole wheat, oats, and corn) and the stuff is delicious, especially for toast. And, yes, the smell of fresh bread is a great thing to wake up to!

i think it depends on the kind of person and family you are. for us, a bread machine is a WOW COOL IT'S A GADGET thing. we would use it once or twice and it would collect dust in our cupboard like the other gadgets he thought he had to have.

we have a sandwich press to "make your own hot pockets" that we have used exactly one time in 14 years but still we cannot get rid of it. we have a make your own hot sauce kit. we have the pancake/egg rings (used twice). we have make your own sushi kit and a funnel cake maker--used once each. we DO actually use the blender for our annual party and occasionally 2-3 times throughout the year, but mostly it collects dust.

we still have a box of quick-bread mix he wanted that's been in our cupboard for 2 1/2 years that we MOVED with. we don't even make that WITHOUT the breadmaker.

but this is why i won't let him get the bread machine. YMMV. ;)

Yes and yes. I haven't been using it as much recently, but I average about a loaf a week. I plan on making a loaf today, actually, because I don't have any bread in the house. My ex-boyfriend's mother used to make fresh bread for dinner and it was sooooooo good. It's probably the thing I miss most about the relationship, lol! So a breadmaker was top on my wish list for the wedding registry. When I didn't get one, it was the first thing I purchased with the gift cards. It's just so easy! 5 minutes prep and 4 hours later you have a nice loaf of hot, steamy, yummy bread. I keep bread, wheat and rye flour on hand so I can make a loaf whenever I feel like it. And one jar of yeast lasts for 6 months. But, like any gadget, you either use it or you don't. My bread maker is the most used appliance in my kitchen behind the oven, microwave, and toaster, but I hardly ever use my blender.

I have had one since 2005, and never use it. I love my bread to have a crispy texture on the outside, and IMHO nothing beats the oven for that. Plus, I've found many recipes for non-knead bread that sound good - I just haven't gotten to the point where I have tried it, thanks to Trader Joes and cheap bread. :)

I love mine but never remember to use it. I lost two 3/4 full bags of flour to moths before we moved and we never got rid of them so I didn't want to risk infecting new flour. I need to buy flour and make it again since it is quite a bit cheaper.

I don't use mine too often, but I really like it. I particularly like making pizza dough with it, which results in a much healthier pizza!

Oh, and the occasional cinnamon-raisin bread. Yum.

I spent $3.50 on a loaf today, and thought to myself, it'd be so much cheaper to make it myself. Alas, i am moving, so I won't buy one until I am in Japan (where bread is more expensive).

We use ours once-twice a week generally, and have done so for going on at least 4 years now. It is awesome. But we do not back the bread in the bread machine like "you are supposed to". Instead we use it to mix and knead the dough and let it have its first rise. Then we move the dough to a bread pan and do a second rise there before baking in the oven.

Let me know if you want our honey-wheat recipe at some point. [livejournal.com profile] cintyber really thought you would like it, and we think of making you guys a loaf every time we make one.
