I visited family this weekend, catching up with my parents after their vacation and seeing my sister, the new babe and her whole crazy crew. I still can't believe that my sister has three children.

Dad mentioned that he's doing a job in Waltham soon with our old neighbor, a former building inspector for the city of Newton and an excellent contractor in his own right. He lives in the house next door to Gram's old house (the same street I grew up on, across the street and down a few houses). They have for many years.

He mentioned to my Dad the other day that as his garden grows he thinks of my grandmother. He would always bring some of the extra veggies over to her house, and she would cook them up and return them to him in a little Tupperware container. He really misses her. Of all the people that he gives his vegetables to, my grandmother was the only one to return them to him.

It was Gram's time to go, and she lived a long and fulfilling life. It is touching to hear stories from people about the impact she had on tiny bits of normal, everyday life. Still, we really miss you Gram.

wow, that never occurred to me: to return a gift with a gift from the gift. What a lovely lady she was. No wonder her absence leaves such a hole in daily life.

That is a beautiful story to add to your memories. It's always so nice to hear a new story of how a loved one touched someone else life and how important the little things are.
