We've been working our way steadily through Twin Peaks, now are close to mid-way through Season 2 (we just figured out who actually killed Laura). You know what freaks me out more than this show? The actor playing Harold Smith http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0902188/ was etched into my memory as playing the pedophile next-door, in an 80s After School Special http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286597/ , thus making his Twin Peaks character even more creepy. I think it's those eyes or something, looking right through you (mind you, I did feel bad for Harold). Being a bit confused by the BOB thing, I did some reading on the internet and caught a whole lot of spoilers. Woah Nellie! It's just going to get weirder! Not ruining things for Brian I didn't give him any details, but I told him last night that the show hasn't gotten weird yet (relatively). My guess is that this is when ratings started dropping.

Also on the weird TV note, we watched a bit of http://www.ifc.com/portlandia/ last night. It's funny and I can see myself and my friends in some of that, embarrassingly enough. I don't think it's quite funny enough to be recording it on DVR though (although, I think I could watch the 'Put a Bird on It' and the "Portland Dream of the 90s' clips over and over again (check them out on the website). Lately I've been thinking of the time we spend sitting on our butts in front of the TV, and how our cable consumption is. Could we get by watching what we want to watch via netflix, hulu, etc? Something to ponder. Brian loves his surround sound and I like watching movies and particular shows. How has your experience been ditching the cable? It's an extreme I don't think I want to do, but it's something that could be cut in a pinch. I guess I like daydreaming of how things could be different.

Another snow storm is on its way. We picked up some dry winter clothes for Brian last weekend (boots, snowpants, mittens and a jacket) since he's never, ever owned any and they'll last forever. I'm excited about our overnight next month with the family at http://www.outdoors.org/lodging/cardigan/index.cfm . I have to figure out where to rent the snowshoes from. I know that REI does it, but we'd need them Saturday and Sunday (probably needing to pick them up Friday for Convenience and drop them off on Monday). With all of the daily fees there, it may be the same to just buy them. In theory I'd love to do more snowshoeing, but Brian hasn't even tried it yet. Also, theory and practice are quite different. ;)

We're going to see some friends play at TTs on Friday night - a 90s themed music night. Anyone else want to join us there? http://www.ttthebears.com/public/calendar.php . I don't really have any more 90s attire. Where has my flannel gone (aren't I my father's daughter)? The flannel I had in the 90s were actually all Dad hand-me downs, and for once in my life I was conveniently in fashion.

yay for outdoors overnight ... I just steered a co-worker towards Mt. Cardigan a couple of weeks ago when he was contemplating a winter hiking trip with his family. It's a nice mountain and while I've never stayed at Cardigan Lodge (either camped nearby or slept up at the High Cabin near the summit) the facilities look ruggedly swanky.

As far as renting goes ... I don't know how much time you're going to get when travelling to Cardigan, but you could consider stopping at an EMS either in Manchester or Concord to rent snowshoes there. At least that cuts down on the extra trip to REI. You should call though as snowshoe rentals at EMS can be limited (the Boston store has stopped renting them)

Also, you can ask about the fee schedule. From what I recall, at REI, there might be a weekend rate that allows you to rent on Friday and return on Monday morning without incurring too much extra charge. Or it's something like $20 for the first day and $5 for each additional.

New snowshoes tend to start at $150, so if you aren't sure about whether both of you are up for doing more than two or three times, then renting is definitely worth doing.

I've done a day trip to Cardigan, and we warmed up in the lodge in front of the fire before heading back to Boston. My brother's wife is a huge outdoor enthusiast in the winter, and she's gotten him sucked in and is slowly but surely starting to get the rest in on it. We'll be staying in the lodge, driving up on a Saturday in late March and staying 1 night. It will be fun, and I think a good way to introduce Brian to it.

Thanks for the weekend rental tips! Last I checked the REI in Reading rented and I work not too far from there. I am assuming that supplies will be limited, so I have to figure this out soon. Walking through the snow sans snowshoes won't be too fun. :)

I've read that the mystery of who killed Laura wasn't the focal point for David Lynch, but network pressure made him reveal it earlier than planned (if ever, knowing him), and he lost interest. See the movie "Fire Walk With Me" after the series...if you can find it!
