They said that the 1 feeding after her first big sleep was reasonable/necessary. Basically, she should go around 6 hours after her bedtime feeding before eating again, and then not have food until her morning feeding (she's usually up around 6 or 7 and wants to eat about a half hour after that).
I had read all over the place (and the Pedi warned me) that if they associate eating to sleep, they will have a hard time sleeping without the food. It makes sense. When they are newborns they need to eat every 2-3 hours, but not so much now. Clearly she's not going to starve or waste away if we don't feed her all night. She 'bulks up' (wants to eat a lot) in that last feeding before bed, and it is plenty to get her through the chunk of time before waking again. We'll see how it goes. We're going to try the rocking/pacifier/falling asleep on us route. Those are still crutches, but at least they don't involve food. Ultimately we need to get her to the point where we can put her down awake and she can drift off herself. I know it is easier said than done, but it make sense that it is how it's got to be if we ever expect her to go to bed down the line where she eats real food dinner with us, and goes to bed a couple of hours after that.
It makes sense that this is such a challenge. I fought my parents tooth and nail to not go to sleep or not nap. I remember them telling me that I would LOVE
