A baby backpack carrier would be awesome for hikes. You might be able to find one on Craigslist (or buy one from Mike & Mo - I don't think they use theirs anymore).
Kids seem to oscillate on weight. Kai was underweight (8%). Now he is 50%. He also went to short (35%) to normal (50%). Now you might consider him "thick". Every few months he gets really fat, and then stretches out again. In other words, don't worry about her weight yet. Unless I suppose the doctors tell you to worry.
