I just realized that the weekend that B and I are going to VT to help out our friends at the http://www.griffingrove.com/home.htm is Easter weekend. When I'm supposed to be hosting a breakfast or something for the fam at our house.

So I think we'll be driving back from VT early on Sunday and hosting an Easter dinner instead. How I'll pull that off, I just don't know. Has anyone done that Honeybaked Ham thing before (and do you think it would be OK for the thing to sit in my fridge from Thursday to Sunday)?

Eek! I'm glad we took the 21st off too (Patriot's Day). If anyone wants to come watch the Boston Marathon from our house feel free to come by on Sunday night for a sleep-over :)

Maybe Andy and I could pick up the ham for you since we will be at your house anyways. I could even pre make some of the food so all you have to do is the final cooking. Make out a menu plan and any food allergies and I will help out however I can. One thing I can do is cook when I want to.

honeybaked ham.....yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmy

You can actually put it in your freezer also. Best served at room temperature (Don't cook it!)

The pain in the ass is getting it. You have to deal with all these pushy little old ladies that have no problem using their shoulders to get ahead, but they usually have servers going around with free samples.

Alternatively, I think you can pre-order it also and they deliver possibly?

I'll talk to my Dad about timing - if I can pick up a honeybaked ham, get them to bring desserts and make side dishes ahead of time (and just leave them in the fridge to heat up later) I'll be fine :)

The bunnies and Max will be SO excited to have your company :)

Coolness!

Great! So I could actually get it like a week before Easter if I wanted to :)

I'll have to check the place out (they actually have one near my house, which was why I thought of ordering from them). Thanks for all of the info!

no problem.

We love love honeybaked hams, but the closest one is on Route one. So if one of us goes to get it, we get to snitch more than anyone else! ha:)

Actually let me do most of the cooking, I have wanted to cook a dinner like this for a while but our house is not set up for it. The oven stinks. Please let me cook for you, you do so much for me. I am going to love taking care of your kids, I miss having a kitty. <3

Well, you guys *are* invited for dinner. If I take care of the ham and get all the ingrediants, I guess throwing together some side dishes wouldn't be a huge deal. I'll talk to my Dad and let you know (I don't think we've EVER had a proper Easter dinner).

Now what kind of sides go with Ham?

They are really sweet, I'm glad someone we know (and not a random petsitter from the vet) will be around to take care of them!

honey baked ham rocks. our family had those all the time on special occasions. they're good if you can pick them up warm, otherwise just heat them up in the oven for a while, while you're preparing other dishes.

here's a menu that i've had at my friends house a lot on easter: ham, shrimp cocktail (cold), steamed asparagus with some seasoned oil drizzled on it w/salt/pepper/etc, potatoes of some sort - au gratin? -, another veggie, maybe carrots?, salad, etc. snacks beforehand (deviled eggs of course).

another thing you might want to look into is getting some yummy frozen foods from costco. we did that this past weekend for the party and let me tell ya, they have some yummy flour taquitos that were a big hit. just bake for like 10-15 minutes and voila! a box contains about 80 pieces. (that'll probably be enough ;) )

seriously, though, honey baked hams are lifesavers for family dinners. good luck! (you could even pick up the ham on the way home from VT!

Oh my God I LOVE those things, I could eat the whole box :)

Actually on Easter Sunday, that makes me a bit nervous. I'll have to confirm the time for dinner and go in and check them (and their policies) out - Its convenient having one right on Rt. 9 I guess :)

Yay!

I thought you'd be caught up in wedding craziness and wouldn't be able to make it :)

Easter is the 20th (so the sleepover would be that night) and the marathon is on the 21st.

Yay!

i think what we used to do was order it in advance (like getting your turkey for thanksgiving) and then you only had to suffer the line and wait. you could always send someone out on a ham run while others prepare.

another good idea is to have your family bring side dishes/potluck. we've done that a lot, too.

i think you'll be fine wrt pulling this off.
