I can get a good garment bag (do they have "acid free" ones) to store my wedding dress in? Its not been in the best of conditions and every time I go in the closet in my craft room (like I did yesterday) I remember I need to do something better with it. I didn't have it boxed up by a dry cleaner since I'm planning on wearing it again at some point (though at the same time, I'm nervous about spilling something on it).

On that note, I need to figure out what to wear to Medieval Manor on Saturday, whoot! I had thought of wearing it actually (since the night didn't involve tromping through mud, like the normal faire event does) but it does involve eating food with one's hands. Hrm . . .

It would ROCK if they have them at Target . . . I think I need to stop there anyway to pick up some hangers for the clothes I bought this weekend. I can't believe I bought that many clothes in one trip - I am so not a girl with it comes to shopping (in that I don't really like to shop).

How about something like this: http://veilsalamode.com/garmentbags.html

If you do a search on google.com for acid free garment bags, it comes up with a bunch :)

Thanks for the info. Those look like exactly what I want, only I'm trying to avoid the mail order thing. I'll look around a big and if I can't find anything 'live and in person' I'll probably take a chance on these guys.

dare i say, try a bridal shop?! but, there is always that vintage clothes fair that preceeds the spring brimfield show. i've never been but have heard it's full of hardcore vintage clothes. i'd suppose that they'd have something.

also, try calling the textiles department at the MFA. they might have a list of resources you could contact that are local.

another google search brings up a site: http://www.nationalgown.com which lists that they use muslin garment bags (#6 on the faq http://www.nationalgown.com/faq/faq.htm) that might give you a place to start here.

in general it's said that hanging a fine garment like your wedding dress does a number on the threads & that's why boxing it is the preferred method of storage. maybe they could box it yet make it easily accessible?

good luck!
