On the way to the Vermont Ren Faire today my car overheated (we were in Athol, about halfway to Brattleboro). It started smelling REALLY bad, making noise and we pulled over. We opened the hood to find antifreeze EVERYWHERE . . . I've had lots of car problems before (not with this one - with other cars) but never a heating problem.
If anyone remembers about a month ago I had a small leak in antifreeze. I had it checked out 3 times in two different places and finally I was assured by the Ford Dealer (after it being in the shop for 3 days) that it was due to loose bolts on the head gasket and that I shouldn't have any serious problems.
I've been monitoring the fluid and temp since then but out of nowhere it just blew up today! So we were towed back to Waltham by AAA and the car is sitting parked at my mechanic's place until B can take me there Monday.
So I may be in the market for a new car depending on what work needs to be done on mine (its a 96 Ford Contour worth only $4000 which is what I owe on it).
This is what I really want, though it would be a huge risk to get it . . . parts are very difficult to find for these things (but they are SO sexy): http://www.thunderhillclassics.com/gm/79_monte_carlo/ .
But I'll probably end up with something cheap small - I hate small cars :(
