Camping was really nice . . .

No plaster dust, no random staples on the floor. No sniffing the lovely odor of the kilz that we've been using to prime the rooms and cover up the stains of residents past.

I kept saying that we had a 'ghetto site' because we weren't right on Lake Ontario like we were last year - they put us in the cheaper sites with no electricity (which is fine with me, we rarely camp places that have electricity).

It was SO beautiful! Our site was pretty private and surrounded by greenery and water. But the bugs weren't too bad either! We sat in camping chairs while the guys stoked the fire and watched the bats swoop around above the water saving us from crazy amounts of bites.

B and I slept in our tent alone this time - we have a huge 3 room tent which afforded us "the bedroom", "the closet/dressing room" and "the middle room" which is high enough to stand in. The way that the tent was positioned allowed us to leave the windows open and to awake in the cool morning air to see the sun coming up on the left over the water and see the trees shading us from its harsh rays.

The Sterling Faire was really nice, though bittersweet due to the recent passing of Queen Baj http://www.net-marks.com/nerennies/benefitbodge.htm . She performed at Sterling and King Richard's Faire (as well as many places) for years. I never met this women but had friends that did; you could sense the loss at the faire and the quiet recognition of last weeks events even though nothing was formally announced. T and L stuck around for the end of the faire where they saw the singing of Aud Lang Syne (which usually doesn't happen until the last faire day of the season) which the filling-in queen closed with "If I may be so bold - God save the Queen".

I wished we had stayed for the day; we usually don't get to see all of the shows that I'm interested in . . . B and I are planning on staying from open to close at the next faire we attend (most likely Maine). I really enjoy this time of the year where we can get dressed up and get away from modern technologies and frustrations and live in a simpler time for the day.

*****

We do have some pictures which I'll post later once B gets them off of the camera (Bratling took a bunch too).

And back to the home front, tonights excitement: first coat of paint in the bedroom :)
